I don't watch or follow NASCAR, but some websites are reporting the kid was DOA at the hospital?

Tyler Graves, a sprint-car racer and friend of Ward's, told Sporting News in a phone interview that he was sitting in the Turn 1 grandstands and saw everything that happened.

"Tony pinched him into the frontstretch wall, a racing thing," Graves said. "The right rear tire went down, he spun on the exit of (Turn) 2. They threw the caution and everything was toned down. Kevin got out of his car. … He was throwing his arms up all over the place at Tony for most of the corner.

"I know Tony could see him. I know how you can see out of these cars. When Tony got close to him, he hit the throttle. When you hit a throttle on a sprint car, the car sets sideways. It set sideways, the right rear tire hit Kevin, Kevin was sucked underneath and was stuck under it for a second or two and then it threw him about 50 yards."

Ward was walking towards the middle of the track, others were slowing down but Stewart hit the gas. Ward gets caught up in the rear wheel, is spun violently and thrown to the ground.

Doesn't matter if he was begging for it. "Pedestrians" always have the right away. Granted, hes standing in the middle of the race track, but Stewart is the one driving. The fault lies with him.

Very strange.....After the crash you can see the yellow caution flags out and the other cars slow, so it wasn't like he was standing in the middle of the track during a live race.

You can tell he's dead while he's laying there not moving.

Its hard to tell by the video, but some say that Stewart hit the gas pedal. I wonder if he planned to run him over.

Just read this:

He indicated Stewart, 43, was cooperative and there were no charges pending at this time. According to the Associated Press, Povero indicated the incident is not being investigated as a criminal matter.

Angrily storming out onto a racetrack with vehicles still moving pretty quickly is not a good idea, you could get killed. I think the video backs up my hypotheses.

Regulations? He is allowed to drive. What needs to be question is the what led up to this. The type racing NASCAR allows...
