We used to have an artist's tax exemption in Ireland - any artist paid 0% income tax. When the economy went to shit they changed law so earnings under €300k/year were tax exempt and tax was paid above that level. Needless to say Bono "give to the poor" (you know - taxes) moved his business from Dublin to the Netherlands.

There are some great charities like the Jack and Jill charity here that publish all accounts and are set up for the right reasons - usually by people affected by a disease, condition etc. Then there are the administrative behemoths that use charitable status to make money, treat it as a cash cow and if money does get donated it goes to the wrong places.
