He's gotten too many concussions... the league REALLY doesn't want him getting killed/concussed in a national week 1 game, and it's inevitable, but they can't just tell him to retire.  Suddenly they discover his drug use, huh?  Convenient.   He's probably just trying to get ripped for Olympia expo pics.

Broncos receiver Wes Welker has been suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL’s policy against performance-enhancing drugs.

According to multiple reports, Welker tested positive for a banned amphetamine.

Welker becomes one of the highest-profile NFL players to be busted for a PED violation. Welker led the league in receptions three times while with the Patriots, and he was a component of the best offense in the NFL last year with the Broncos.

There’s been much talk in recent days about whether Welker would be healthy enough to play in Week One after suffering a preseason concussion, but now that talk is moot: Welker will miss four games regardless of whether he is cleared by the league’s concussion protocol.

The Broncos should be in OK shape at receiver even without Welker, thanks to the signing of free agent receiver Emmanuel Sanders and the drafting of rookie receiver Cody Latimer.

Welker will not be permitted to practice with the team during the suspension. He will be eligible to return in Week Five.

The Broncos probably dont give a shit behind the scenes.

Welker needs four weeks off to clear the cobbwebs from his 3rd concussion in 9 months anyway.

One more concusion, and he is likely finished for good.

yea I agree, in the long run this is probably a good thing for him and the broncos

Plus I have emmanuel sanders on my fantasy team so HELLS YEA!!!!!

I don't really track the NFL but I might go with the loud mouth DB for Seattle.  There is also a reserve DB (no sure if he is still in the league) from Florida State who got accepted to Oxford.

tested positive for molly... sounds like he was high as a kite there.  and it ssounds like the NFL will sit on a positive test, and then HOLD IT until they need to use it.  If he doesn't get a concussion, and he's a feelgood story, do we ever hear about this?  lol   But the league wants him to relax and take a break so he doesn't get concussion #4 in 9 months, or die.

I laugh at the NFL's drug policy.  Seems to target people are certain times. Probably more than 80% have failed tests and they'll just wait it out until someone fucks up then pull out the positive test.

no, they already told him about it, but his appeal for it was monday...  Do I think a squeaky clean welker gets a break and we never hear about it, maybe.  Do I think him taking 4 weeks off very much matches up with their desire not to see his shrimpy ass leaving gray matter on the field?  totally. 

I'm just saying he presented a real problem to them this week.  They had to make a call.  Leaning one way really made that first problem go away for a month, and makes him way easier to cut in DEN now that he's a drug abuser, officially.
