He never said any such thing, during his first year, he was initially in the general population but spent the last six months in isolation (which he preferred) because he didn't like the different cell mates he shared with and he didn't want to get in a fight and get more time added to his sentence.  He says on Joe Rogans podcast that the first six months he was in general population and then he got in an argument with a sergeant, and he claims it was then that his UFC fighter status become known and the authorities used this an an excuse to put him in the hole for the last 6 months of his time.  War machine actually claims he chose to stay in the hole after he was offered to go back into general population.  This is a quote from his blog
