The conflict in Ukraine...one big lie?? Any Ukranians on getbig?

Speaking with a number of Ukrainians through my work, I was amazed to hear them claim that the western news is reporting absolute lies about what is happening in Ukraine.

The majority of Ukrainian people are ethnically Russian.
The majority of Ukrainian people are pro Russian culture and in the main pro Russia.
The majority of Ukrainians consider themselves to be Russian people.

The separatists are anti-Russian, pro-independence/pro-EU/pro west.
The separatists are the terrorists and are the minority comprising of primarily non ethnically Russian people and sellouts.
The Klitchko's are sellouts who were groomed by the US and West to support and fund an uprising.

And as always with all conspiracies, apparently there are absolutely vast untapped gas reserves in Ukraine, that western countries want to get hold of to reduce their reliance on Russian gas.

I don't know if we have any Ukrainian getbiggers here who can add any insight.

I can only speak for my family who live in and around Kiev, but they are not on board with becoming Russia lol. I think majority of east Ukrainians are ethnically Russian, but mid- to western Ukraine are ethnically Ukrainians.
I personally wouldn't care much, but since I have family there id like to see putin fuck off. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't give 2 shits about that hole. I'm Canadian and proud of it, if my whole family relocated to Canada I really wouldn't care if Ukraine became Russia.

I learnt German with some Ukrainians. The ones I'm still in touch with are of the same opinion as OP - they consider themselves Russian and think the Ukrainian fighters are terrorists. It's only the opinion of a few people though, so who knows?

There is no such thing as "ethnically Ukrainians". Ukraine as an independent entity only exists between 1917-1920 and after 1990. Historically, Ukrainians are a bunch of Russians, with some Belorussians, Poles, Slovaks, etc.

Weird. My family on my mom's side are all hardcore Ukrainians. I know we have Polish blood, too, from my grandpa's side, but no Russians from what I can tell. My grandma was born in Georgia, but she's not ethnically Georgian. In any case, I just want my family outta there, but they're too stubborn and patriotic to leave

My uncle (mom's brother) is a cardiologist so he feels like its his responsibility to help the wounded. His wife is also a doctor (not sure what specialization), same mindset. Their kids will obviously stay with the parents. My grandmother is way too old to move anywhere else and just wants to be left alone on her farm lol. I'm not sure about the rest of the family, they're not directly related to me and I don't really keep in touch with many of them.

I was elementary school friends with a kid named Victor.  He and all his family were from Ukraine.  One day he just wasn't at school anymore so I'm no longer in contact with him.  I didn't get the impression that he was a Ruski.  His big fat mom was old country and used to wear one of those peasant-woman head scarves.  The whole family were built like eastern block power lifters.  HTH.

Same thing the Ukrainians AND Russians at my old job told me. We had tons of them, and most of their families are still living over there.
