Pool side is the easiest thing ever...they talk to me I talk to them. Beach as well but always in the water, I don't know I just find it easier to strike up a conversation in the water as opposed to sand. Having a decent built, a nice smile and mannerism helps....failing that just drown the bitch.

We have rivers close by with sandy beaches. Fun to go hang out on in the summer.
