Athlete, A person possessing the natural or acquired traits, such as strength, agility, and endurance, that are necessary for physical exercise or sports, especially those performed in competitive contexts.
I would like to know where bodybuilders dont fit in here. Many people dont consider bodybuilders athletes because on the day of the comp. we dont race jump or swing a bat. All of strength, agility and endurance a bodyuilder does is off the stage. Competitve bodybuilders are the most dedicated athletes to their sport no questions asked.
Bodybuilding is probably worst at enhancing strenght, agility, endurance.
Bodybuilding can create an illusion that a small guy can look big, same applies that it can create an illusion u are some professional athlete, like a fighter, football player.
Look, u don't need to be athletic, in sports terms like ability, talent, to build muscle. It's a no brainer to perform some static range of motion and u can start at any age if u want. Ever heard that of other pro athlete that they start with 20-40?
If u want to call yourself an athlete then bodybuilding should be complementery. Any combat, pro athletes, olympian lift weights but their main focus is maintaining, enhancing their athletic ability. Got it?
Cung Le in recent fight is an example that focusing bodybuilding doesn't help in competitive sports. High probability he focused more on his bodybuilding look than training mma. And very low fat, dehydrating like a bodybuilder doesn't help in a competing sport.
