Does bodybuilding need a "Goodell-like" figure?

Face it, bodybuilding is a niche sport/pageant, and it will never make any real money unless you get the fringe viewer involved.  Much like NASCAR or the NFL, the hardcore fans will watch no matter what, as they are passionate about it and will continue to watch their oiled up hero men in glittery thongs.  

That said, it can not go mainstream until it is cleaned up a bit.  I figured that with the death of the Weiders, that this would be a good time to get someone in there that will clean house, and throw the drug pushers and abusers out of the sport.  Also, the g4p and the grapefruit fucking has to go as well.  You can never really capture the attention of the mainstream public, while you continue to have this sport cater to more fetish seekers and muscle worshipping closet cases.  With more viewers comes more money for the sport, that will then be passed to the competitors, so the shady side of bodybuilding need not be catered to anymore.  

Get a hard nosed commissioner in there who has a clean background and can talk partnerships with main stream media companies, and pay the man what he is worth instead of having some idiot in a shark skinned suit taking the industry for a ride for a few more minutes of fame in a magazine.  There is a parasitic element to this sport and over inflated sense of importance on the part of the industry insiders which holds the whole thing back from gaining notoriety.  Just my two cents.

They don't need a commissioner...if they want to be a legit sport, they need year around drug testing.

Exactly my point, the hardcore fans are always more conservative and resist change.  But, they will always be there.  Much like the NASCAR revolt by fans when they changed from Winston Cup, and started restrictor plate racing.  All those rednecks said they wouldn't watch.  What happened? More people watched.  It is the same with NFL.  People said softening up the game would be bad, but look, it is as popular as ever.  You need more viewers to make it more profitable, and thus more lucrative for the competitors.

As a source of income ok, but trying to get the most out of it? Again, I believe this is the wrong mindset. That spoiled Gucci diva (Phil) is a prime example, a horrible rolemodel, and not just because of his physique.

All competitors (the delusional ones excluded) understand that you can't make a living from price money alone and no one forces them to make certain decisions.

BB is never something that will attract major media interest because at the end of the day, it's just a sort of beauty pageant that's built on drug use.

However, BB generally is quite popular around the world.
Look at how many followers and fans the top pro's have on FB, Twitter, Instagram etc. Often, it's more then the top performing athletes of more mainsteam sports.

This. It's just too boring to attract major mainstream interest. There really isn't any heavy physical competition to it, the posing is long and drawn out, etc.... That coupled with the pervasive drug use and gay4pay, dooms it. It will always be a niche sport. 

Also it would require a ton of money to reform it, and it probably isn't worth it to the supplement companies, they'd make more money in the anti-aging, and fitness (not bodybuilding, but cross training) fields.
