Pro Division Press Release #3 - Medical Benefits for members
« on: February 14, 2006, 03:58:13 PM »
ONLY FOR PRO ATHLETES IN PRO DIVISION!
For Immediate Release
February 14, 2006

PRO DIVISION INC ANNOUNCES MEDICAL BENEFITS FOR MEMBERS

Pro Division Inc announced today an agreement with McLean Hospital, part of Harvard Medical School, to provide medical benefits for Pro Division Inc members.
McLean Hospital will conduct complete comprehensive yearly physicals for all Pro Division Inc. athletes. This is an unprecedented step in the healthcare of professional bodybuilding athletes.

Wayne S. DeMilia, CEO of Pro Division Inc states, “The main part of any show or competition is the athletes. Without them, there is no event. We must concern ourselves with the health of the athletes to not only insure the longevity of the athlete, but also of the sport.

What precipitated this action by Pro Division Inc is the number of untimely deaths and severe medical problems that has beset the sport the past 24 months.
DeMilia goes on to say, “Three top male athletes have needed kidney transplants over a two year time span. Something has to be done. Heart attacks and bypass surgery become all too common. Athletes under the age of 40 are suffering strokes. Something has to be done and we will be doing it.”

“We are taking a bold step in order to detect problems early, with the desired result being to save lives. We all know that early detection with any medical problem gives the best possible chance to defeat the problem. We are looking to give our athletes that fighting chance.”

“We also know that this is a benefit for all athletes, whether they live in the U.S. or not. We want to do something in the medical area for all athletes that participate in our shows.”

Any questions or comments should be directed to Pro Division Inc via email at prodivisioninc@yahoo.com.

How does a pro from another country make it to McLean hospital and will Pro division pay for the transport there and back?

If any problems are found in the yearly physical, then who pays for any treatment?           :-\

ya, all it says it that they will give them check-ups. what kind of coverage do they have if a problem is found and needs treatment

They are realy catering for the American market and yet if you look at the pro fields there is more and more pros coming in through other countrys , they need to rethink this other wise it will just end up being a American focused organisastion , thus cutting the chances of getting all the good guys from overseas on- board, why would a guy from say Germany jion them if all the bennifts they proclaim do not apply to them.
The world just isnt the USA ya know !!!
Another question; how are they going to determine pro status? when they have no qualifying compettitions under this umbrella, cause you know the IFBB are going to say if you go with these guys you are not with us , and this sentiment will flow down to the amatures at national level as well , world wide
as well !!

Perhaps if you choose to use another country's medical care they can allot X amount of dollars for your treatment?

In case you hadn't noticed, many of the cats from overseas have the Giant Euro bellies ala Federov.

Yearly physicals?  Who pays for them?  Why are they only at McLean Hospital?  They all should be getting physicals, but that's a long way from the "medical benefits" of this thread's title.  What they need is insurance.  Chicherillo says there is an IFBB athlete's group plan now.  Will the Pro Division have anything like that?

i dont think hes bitching. hes just saying that getting a check up isnt exactly medical benefits like they are calling it.

true medical benefits would be paying for these check ups plus coverage for any medical problems they have...which they did not say they would do........yet

Will this "insurance" cover any problems caused by steroid or other drugs used that require treatment, as well as covering treatment for a pre-existing condition cause by years of drug use?

This insurance for Pro BBers will only cover accidents/illnesses that occur in the following locations:

1) Church
2) Libraries
3) Cars that are not leased or borrowed

The projected budget for year one is $0.

First of all, no insurance company on the planet is going to cover anyone who needs treament from self induced drug abuse. At least now these guys will know if something is starting to go wrong and hopefully they will be smart enough to stop!!!!!!  As far as I know these comprehensive tests are free to all in the new org. And, I find it odd how all of the sudden the IFBB is talking insurance.  ::) Not gonna happen guys, ever.

It's a nice idea but (as it's been said before) what insurance company would cover these guys? I can only imagine what the premiums would be.

What a total joke...

Most pro bodybuilders could careless about their health, or what a doctor tells them they should or shouldn't do...

Are gyno operations covered and paid for?  ;)

The big questions should be...

1. Why would a bodybuilder bother to enter one of these shows since the prize money is so low and once you do you can't guest pose at any NPC event ever again or sell pictures at an ifbb event.

2. Why would a fan bother to buy a ticket to one of these events when there are no contracted athletes definitely appearing?

3. Why would a supplement company bother to sponsor either a show or an athlete for the same reason?

You can get a comprehensive blood test for less than $50.  It will sure take a lot more than that for guys to get to Belmont, Mass to get tested at McLean (even assuming all testing costs are covered).  I don't get the economics of this at all.  Who lives close enough?  If Demillia really cares, why not just reimburse the costs of guys to get tested in their local areas?  By the way, it took me a 5 second google search to find out McLean is a psychiatric hospital.  That seems appropriate.

A quick call to them should establish that one of their patients is suffering delusion of grandeur.
Anyone who considers this seriously would benefit from a visit to them.
