How to embed an image in a GETBIG thread
« on: October 03, 2014, 09:30:15 PM »
Lately, I have noticed several getbiggers who obviously don't know how to embed a picture on a thread, so they just post a link to the page.  This is cumbersome and risky (in terms of clicking on a dodgy link).  Here is my quick tutorial demonstrating how to embed a picture. (Same deal with youtube also)

The thing that usually catches people on Youtube links is the S being added on to the HTTP.

Also it can be finicky about sometimes wanting a clipped link were you delete everything before the video's number/letter code -

So if this doesn't work between the brackets,
try -

Like BB said, with youtube links you have to delete the 's' at the end of the https part of the URL address, so for example if the youtube url is say '
' you have to manually remove the 's' in the https:// part so it now looks like '
'
.

Some youtube clips have embedding turned off, so you can't embed them but most people want no restrictions on generating viewers, so there aren't too many of them.

Some sites don't allow embedding of images. An alternative is to download software such as Screenhunter and then save the captured photo or image to your computer. It is a simple matter to resize it and or edit it and then post it as an attachment by opening

Additional Options beside your message. This way the photo won't disappear if the link does or if there are other problems. The Pro version is better if you do plenty of captures. You can customize how you download and save files and photos.

LOL. Or you can right-click and select "Save Image" from any browser made in the last 20 years.

I assumed most here are not knuckleheads. The screen capture can save stills from videos, web pages, forum posts, photos, etc. Some people disable downloading of their photos so the screen capture overcomes that.

You don;t need software to do a screen capture, you simply hold down the "SHIFT" key and then hit the "PrtSc" key.  The image can then be pasted then cropped, resized or whatever using your favorite image editor, Photoshop is the best, because then you can also save it and maximize the quality due to their being a 500KB size limit on image files here at Getbig.

Using Screenhunter you don't need to mess around with editing if you don't want. The Pro version lets you select a name as well. Makes it one click then put the rectangle around what you want to capture and where to save it. No need to capture the whole screen and have to crop it later. You can also maximize the image size by enlarging it then capturing the larger image. For really large photos you can also take section captures and stitch them together. Lots of people disable downloading of photos. I think they fear someone might steal their photos. Well, not many people sell any photos at all so that is really a lame excuse. If you don't want your photos harvested then don't put them on the internet. There is also nothing stopping people from taking photos of photos and getting a good copy that way. Not on your screen but in an exhibit, etc. Even mobile phones will do a decent job.
