The Average Bugatti Owner

Between Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley and Bugatti, the Volkswagen Group has no lack of prestige marques under its umbrella. And while some of these marques may produce models that compete against each other, each seems to be profitable enough in its own right to justify its existence. But what about Bentley and Bugatti? Surely these marques cater to the same customers, right?

Not according to their shared CEO. "The clientele between Bentley and Bugatti is remarkably different," said Wolfgang Dürheimer in an interview with Bloomberg. "The Bentley customer on average owns 8 cars. The average Bugatti customer has about 84 cars, 3 jets and 1 yacht."

That may be a slight exaggeration (we'd have expected three yachts and one jet), but it puts things into perspective: Bentleys are for the one percent. Bugattis are for the one percent of that one percent. Which only goes to show why it's taken Bugatti over eight years to sell 450 Veyrons – a number of units it would take Bentley about two weeks to move, albeit at about one tenth the price.

With only about 20 units left to go, the Veyron is about to roar off into the sunset, after which Bugatti will introduce its replacement sometime late next year or early in 2016. The Alsatian marque is reportedly working on three different versions, and the final design – thanks in no small part to a hybrid assist – is expected too pack some 25 percent more power than the 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 in the current Veyron, which produces 987 horsepower in standard form and 1,184 hp in the Super Sport and Vitesse models.

The Sultan of Brunei has 5 EB110s (!) in his car collection (some say it has up to 5000 cars - many of them unique and very rare) as well as a Veyron.

Considering they only sold 450 over the last eight years, I wouldn't say plenty of rap stars own the Veyron.

List price is $1.7 Million.

A replacement transmission for the Veyron costs just over US$120,000.
It uses special Michelin PAX run-flat tyres, designed specifically to accommodate the Veyron's top speed, and cost US$25,000 per set.

Bugatti Veyron has a total of ten radiators:

3 heat exchangers for the air-to-liquid intercoolers.
    3 engine radiators.
1 for the air conditioning system.
    1 transmission oil radiator.
    1 differential oil radiator.
    1 engine oil radiator

Black rapper doesn't care about any of that he buys purely for the fact its the most expensive supercar.  You either buy a Veyron because you either want to be seen as having lots of money or you have horrible taste in cars.

There are MANY people that can afford to buy one but just don't , most likely because they have good taste.

My boss happens to own a 50 foot catamaran powerboat with twin helicopter engines that put out around 3000hp each and is capable of over 250mph , over $2 million usd invested so far and counting , propellers alone costing him $28 000. This thing is just a toy for him just like his $300,000 cars and yacht.

My point is just because you can afford a Veyron doesn't mean you are some sort of elite rich or in a special category of wealth because really , there are MANY speed enthusiasts who can afford one but didn't buy it because its such an ugly car and some millionaires have different ideas of what they see in a car or toy.

what a waste of money....1.7 million dollars could change somebody's life forever...or it can buy a car that will sit in a garage with a bunch of other nice cars.

I'm not a big fan of the Veyron either.  Something tells me a VW built quad turbo W16 isn't very reliable or easy to fix.

All I really got out of the article is if you don't already own 84 cars, 3 jets and a yatch, then you shouldn't buy a Veyron.

Which is utter bullshit.

Veyron fans always make them out to be more prestigious and unaffordable than they really are.

Of course. But one can always still have hope that things could change. Silly as that thought might be.
