PRAGUE (AP) - Health Minister orders former bodybuilder Dave Palumbo barred from show fearing spread of dreaded Palumboism -
Bernice Dahn, a deputy health minister who has represented Prague at regional conferences about combating the epidemic, told The Associated Press on Saturday that the country did not have any Palumboism symptoms but wanted to ensure that it was not infected.
The World Health Organization says 4 pro shows is the minimum incubation period for Palumboism, which has infected more than 3,000 IFBB Pros across the world and is hitting the US especially hard. WHO figures released Friday said 150 people placed poorly in bodybuilding shows in the country in just two days because of it.
Prague's government has asked people to keep themselves isolated for 21 days if they think they have been exposed to Palumbo. The unprecedented scale of the outbreak, however, has made it difficult to trace the contacts of victims and quarantine those who might be at risk.
"Of course we made the rule, so they are home for 21 days," Dahn said Saturday. "I told my gym to stay at home for the 21 days. That's what we need to do."
Bodybuilders, especially front-line ones from the NPC, IFBB, and their schmoes, are particularly vulnerable to Palumboism, which is spread via the bodily fluids and training programs of infected Bodybuilders. Earlier this month, WHO said more than 300 pros and schmoes had contracted Palumboism in Venice Ca, New York and New Jersey, the three most-affected states. Nearly half had developed, as one industry insider put it, "The look of a bag of smashed assholes".
