Why is it a crime to have cash?
« on: October 14, 2014, 07:22:16 AM »
It seems having a lot of cash on hand is criminal.  Ever see busts or  cops shows where the cops raid a home and "discover" a few bundles of cash and confiscate it?  or read a story where cops bust into a home and they list things found like 2 stolen tvs, a gun and $10,000 cash.  Same with flying, that you aren't supposed to fly with more than $10,000 on you.  What the fuck is this rule that you can't have lots of cash on hand?  How are getbiggers supposed to manage?

It really is weird when you think of it.

I suppose it puts people needlessly at risk.

However I think our economy would be better off if people could see their money or lack of money first hand.

We should be forced to wear gold chains that represent our wealth, and lumps of coal for ever grand we owe.

might put the economy back in gear.

It is not a crime to carry large amounts of cash.  It is however not smart.

No but if you were ever pulled over or stopped by a cop and they found the cash they would question you about it like it is a crime.

Of course the would, because it doesn't make sense to carry large sums of cash.

This ^^^^^.

The only reason a sane person would carry large amounts of cash are:

a.  You're Floyd Mayweather
b.  You're about to make a large purchase (car, property, etc.).

Any other reason is probably not a good reason, and would be suspect of foul play.

man wins ebay auction to buy a car
takes 20k out of his account to go buy the car
cop pulls him over
takes his money(and lets him go, never charges him with a crime)

The OP has a point; carrying lots of cash is quickly turning into a crime.  Cash is effectively untraceable.  Law enforcement does not like that so having a lot of cash is viewed with the strong suspicion that you are engaged in illegal activity.  If you want to deposit more than $10,000 in a bank you have to explain yourself by completing a currency transaction report.  Similarly, if you are coming from abroad, there are limits to how much cash you may physically bring into the U.S. without having to explain yourself (why do you have it?  Where did you get it? What are you doing to do with it?  Why aren’t you using another instrument like a cashier’s check or wire transfer? etc).  Many people do it, but it is technically illegal to store lots of cash in a safety deposit box in your own bank.  Until very recently it was fairly common for an average person to have a safe in their home and store cash in it.   One can still buy and use safes, of course, but these days your average safe can be broken into or readily stolen.  Most people feel better about storing money in a bank.  I keep a small amount of money in my car, and a few thousand dollars in cash at home (not in a safe), but the days of keeping tons of cash in or under your mattress are long gone.  :-\

Some time ago, a long time friend came to me in (what must have been) serious trouble.  He told me that he needed some cash/money fast, but he could not tell me what it was for nor could he say if or when he would ever pay me back.  It was not a small amount of money.  Guess what I told him...

banks and lawmakers just want a full electronic trail of money use.  it is big brother wanting to know everything you're doing with it.

I remember my first year in college I worked all year throughsummer to pay for it.  Collected the cash in a shoe box.  Registration day came and most kids had checks from mommy and daddy.  I had $14,000 in cash.  Everyone was looking at me strange in line with this big wad of cash in my hands, even heard a few kids snickering about me.  When I went to pay they initially refused.  Said I had to have a check.  Told them I don't have a bank and can't get checks and that no where does it say you cannot pay with cash.  it just said payment had to be made by X day.  After a little discussion they ended up taking my cash as payment for the first year.

Should carry a coupe grand in cash in case the government freezes your accounts and you need to book it to Mexico.

Wiggs claims to hoard gold for the day the government turns on its people and disables all electronic currency and bankkrupts the federal reserve

I have a couple rental properties so on the 1st and middle of the month my tenants all pay in cash. I always feel a bit sketched out depositing thousands in cash, especially considering how I'm juiced, brown and have a man purse lol

It's flat out easier! I take my card and in many instance tap and go. Receipt emailed for easy tracking.

Cash is a pain to deal with and does not make sense.

You should feel more sketched at the fact you have rental properties that you own and people living in them are paying with cash.  That's the first sign of bad credit. I also have properties and learned the hard way, people paying cash have zero respect for the place.

Because the government can't "track" cash.

Rewards system is another major bonus.  I pay for everything on my card from my grande latte every morning to furniture for the office/gas/utilities/ etc..  I now don't have to pay for about a forth of the flights I take every year.

I should note that they're rich international students. They're spoiled and they don't respect properties a lot of the time, but that's why I collect damage deposit now and have contracts instead of handshakes. Some students are very respectful, but others like the Chinese and Saudis can trash your place and not give a fuck.

I've had lost of landlords, and the ones that don't except cash, are usually the laziest k-unts, that can't even bother to check up on their property more than once a year.

Fucking hate that shit.

FYI, I prefer to give several months rent upfront in cash.

I routinely paid my landlords when they accept 3 months cash ahead of time.

Don't feel bad, many countries who keep their gold in the vaults of the World banks aren't allowed to see their own gold. Why? Because it's not there. They have taken their gold and melted it down and "rented" it out to anyone in the form of rings and necklaces etc. The way the GGewish elite think is that instead of keeping Gold in storage and only collecting storage fees, why not melt it down and sell(rent) it off and make even more money off other peoples "Gold". They can call in all Gold at any time. They have done it before. Truthfully the Ggewish Bankers believe that any Gold in the World really belongs to them. And they will get it one way or another...The system is rigged folks...

I have seriously thought of that.  :-X

Remember that movie Enemy of the State (1998)?
