A lot of people say Bertil should have won the '83 Mr. O. He came in 5th.
Here he is with 3rd place Lee Haney.

Bertil seems to be owning him here (upper body).
He talked shit about judges a lot of times, may have hurt his placings...

Cant judge 2 bodybuilders by one photo.

Betil has him on arms in that particular pic the rest is just too close.

But get them together in 14 mandatory poses and Haney is simply better than Fox.

Robbed of few placings maybe, but winning the title? In my opinion no, Bannout was perfect from head to toe, Haney was overall superior, Makkawy looked great... Fox was fourth in front of Zane... He was a 5'7 freak with amazing arms, shoulders, chest, small waist, good lower body, but from the back not so good, and he was soft... Posing was also bad...

Thats not a pic from the olympia though,its the 83 swiss grand prix held after the olympia,Greg DeFerro is in the background and he didn`t do the Olympia.I do understand your point about that one particular pose though,his arms blow Haneys away,and i personally don`t think Lee should have placed as high as 3rd that year.I had it Bannout,Fox,Makkawy,Haney.

May have hurt his placings? Of course it did talking shit about the judges will pretty much guarantee you being placed lower lol.

Guy was a freak , even though I was never a fan of his build. His back didn't do it for me.

I laugh when people say he should have won in 83 lol one of these guys is 210lbs and the other is 188lbs He's not out-muscling Samir though.

Fox had great delts , arms and pecs but he had a lot of holes in his physique.

fox was good in gym pics and power poses like the side chest and most muscular which showed off his thickness but also narrowness, the rest opened up his flaws, his lats didn't flare out in the fdb, his rls was mediocre and so was his bdb

Samir was awesome that year.  Carved out of hard plastic look.  Now there was something I waited to see on NBC months after.  Kids today all spoiled with the internets.

Bertils back lacked the width of haneys, Haney was actually the dorian of his era, he won many a close show based on his superior back, even though both Dorian and Coleman eclipsed his back years later Haney had a great back.  Props to Dorian for attacking his strengths in his pursuit to take him down, but Haney wrote the book on how to win close shows, have the better back, worked well for Dorian and Ronnie later on as well.

may not of had the prettiest build and i know a show aint won on a few poses but man his side chest and most muscular are really impressive, im wondering what a brual bertil cycle was,never struck me as the type to go nuts and abuse everything,i think he was so blessed with good genetics that he prolly grew just as fast eating mass amounts of chicken and steak ect then he woulda on more drugs,its a fact the better genetic guys dont have to go as far into the darkside cause they dont have to,where a bodybuilder that has shitty genetics has to try to go to the point of no return into the darkside just trying to keep up with the good genetics guy
