Paul De Mayo.... pretty sure he was highly underrated...
« on: October 29, 2014, 03:35:15 PM »
...maybe take a second look?

Too bad things didn't end well. I wonder sometimes how he might have done in the long run had the cards been dealt differently. Of course, we can say that about anyone, but Paul wasn't as short as most people think, meaning that he must have been even more monstrous than today's generation can imagine ~

Who knows? I was just surfing around YT and got side-tracked by this vid...

--- I don't know what I'm doing wrong with the link.. thought we were just supposed to delete the "s" in https... whatever. Someone set my ass straight

Sick-ass quads... or "quad-sweep" I should say....wonder how his legs stood up (no pun intended) against Plat'z??

I hung with Paul for a weekend in Toronto very shortly after he won his pro card. He WAS NOT short (but for some reason appeared as he might be in photos). I am an even six feet, and he was right around my height, give or take an inch.

He was also MASSIVE. His arm girth as a whole was possibly the freakiest I have ever seen. Just insane.

I enjoyed his company and found him to be mostly quiet and reserved. He wasn't some blowhard, that's for sure. One night we went to a local bar and he was not that muscle guy at the clubs who struts and pushes his weight around. Paul was polite and friendly with everyone.

It's incredibly sad what became of his young life.

I choose to remember Paul as the gigantic muscle man with a quick smile and friendly demeanor.

Platz is about 5'4-5'5".  Looking at the picture of him standing next to Platz above, no way he is 5'11".  Listed at 5'10"... in Stallone shoe lifts maybe.

Very small world.  My Italian grandmother lived there when I was a kid.

Paul was impressive in person but still I think Jeff King was more so.

You're out to lunch.

Platz and I have hung quite a bit throughout the years. The man is NOT 5'4-'5. More like 5'8.

Didn't do too well at his first Mr. O. That was 95, I think. The year Flex was holding water and was 8th. Paul Demayo was 12th. And was getting 9th and 10th placements in Gran Prix. Shows you just how hard the competition was back then.
