Spoiled generation nothingness.
« on: October 30, 2014, 09:05:49 AM »
Was at my nephews middle school bball game last night and was shocked to see that every kid in there had an iphone or some sort of "smart" phone.  Is this a requirement now to fit in for kids?  When I was in middle school the most expensive thing I owned was my $50 swatch watch.  My parents in a million years wouldn't have spent hundreds for me to have a phone and probably another grand a year in the service fees.  I was talking to a parent about that and she said that the schools assume kids have phones because they do most of their communication via texts to the students.  I assume most of these shits probably have ipads and laptops at home.  People wasting their money on useless shit.

I didn't get my first cell phone until I was around 24.

Only reason I got one is because pay phones started disappearing.

True story.

Actually, it's an investment of sorts. Parents buy that stuff so they have to spend less time taking care of their kids. Same as putting small kids in front of the TV. The easy way out. I had an appointment yesterday with a potential client who wanted to show me an apartment she and her husband own. The lady shows up with a 6yo daughter and a baby boy in a stroller. The daughter has a smartphone, barely takes her eyes off it to say hello to me. The whole time (walking to the elevator, in and out of the elevator, etc...) she's glued to that thing. Funny thing, the mother leaves her kids outside of the apartment so she won't get bothered by them. mind you, the baby boy is asleep at that moment. The kids are in the corridor and suddenly some loud shitty music starts. That little girl had her "playlist" of shitty tunes (3 tunes max) on her smartphone at maximum volume. Needless to say, her little brother wakes up. Mother seems annoyed but continues to go on with our business talk. That girl was putting the same extracts of those tunes (about 10s of those 3 tunes) over and over again at a volume that would have scared Lemmy Kilmister. I didn't want to be rude but I really felt like telling her mother to take care of this. Not once did she say a thing. That crap went on for about ten minutes 'til i could go.

When I was a kid, if I even touched the Thermostat in the house, I would get in shit.   I think I was 9 before my parents even let me answer the land line when it rang.

Im a HS teacher in NYC and the law is no phones-its as enforceable as jaywalking-its a big problem-I like my phone but I am a responsible adult.. these kids are addicted and helpless without their phone-they are robotic phone zombies..and rather get suspended then give up their phone..

Parents usually buy a phone for their kids in order to keep tabs on them and for safety and convenience. I'm Not sure if you can even buy a dumb phone anymore, and a smart phone is the same price anyway. If parents are buying them a large data package, I think it's not necessary. But being able to contact each other at all times, especially in these times of excess sports involvement, is nice and convenient. Its nice to see parents stay connected to their kids by doing this. Time to get with the times people.

That does not mean I think it is acceptable for them to bury their nose in it when out with the family. You just have to give them boundaries like anything else. Teachers should keep them is a basket during classes IMO too.

if you were a teenager in the early 90's, carrying a Motorola beeper was very slick and cool and you were considered important.... ;D

I remember those! But they weren't allowed in the school I went to. The teachers said they represented drug dealers. One kid was actually sent home for bringing one to school.

i would of beat my dick to even more of a death if i had access to porn as a kid

before i would have to find degenerate friend/s on the down low at school to trade and swap vhs pornos that i would dub from my dads collection in the attic , then it was a fucking mission hiding the fucking things so mom and dad wont find them

i would have one or 2 tapes that would last me a year , ever got bored of beating it to the same chick several times a day

now at the click of a button you have access to bilions of scenes and clear history after your done

My baby mama got my kid one the day before she started middle school (6th grade).   >:(

Now she gets pissed when the kid stares at the phone for minutes on end.

The mother should've listened to me in the first place.  I'll leave it at that.

Fuck cars, televisions, and smart phones.

If I didn't have to do all my school work in front of one I wouldn't use a computer either.
