http://hotair.com/archives/2014/11/06/what-should-the-gop-do-to-try-to-stop-obamas-executive-amnesty/

One possibility is to simply not fund it. Remember, Obama will have to spend government money to issue IDs or Visas or whatnot. That money must be appropriated. The GOP can refuse to appropriate any money for this purpose.

I wonder, though, what happens when Obama threatens a government shutdown by vetoing a spending bill that doesn't include money for his executive amnesty. Mitch McConnell has already ruled out any shutdowns -- including, presumably, any shutdowns President Fuckwit might initiate himself.

The last shutdown was caused just as much by the Democrats as the Republicans, after all. It's not like Obama and the Democrats have to prove to the media that the Republicans are the responsible party.

But beyond that practical question, I have a larger one: Why bother?

What are we so afraid of?

As a practical matter, Obama is not deporting anyone at the moment. So we are currently in a period of temporary amnesty -- a politically unacknowledged period of temporary amnesty.

Obama currently is imposing a temporary amnesty without having to face up to the public over this policy.

Wouldn't it actually be better to make him -- and every Democrat who supports him, and refuses to vote in favor of Congressional attempts to undo the amnesty -- own their amnesty?

Obama can't actually legalize these people on his own. That would definitely require an act of Congress -- not even King Obama claims the power to simply dispense citizenship at his imperial whim.

All he can do is temporarily refuse to enforce the immigration laws.

Which he can do until January 2017.

And he's already doing that -- without catching the public heat for that, because the public doesn't know he's doing that.

Remember, his claim is that he's deporting more people than ever.

That's a lie, but the media transmits it eagerly for him.

An executive amnesty would undo all that good, useful lying. He would no longer be able to claim he's the Deporter in Chief.

So why not call this asshole's bluff?

There is no reason for the GOP to act in any kind of urgent way -- giving up things we don't need to give up -- to prevent an executive amnesty. One is already in place, and has been in place for years.

All Obama is threatening to do is to make his lawlessness a matter of public record, which he can no longer hide via the cover that the media provides to him.

Why should we work very hard at all to protect Obama and the Democrats from the wrath of the public?

They need to tell him in no uncertain terms that if he does this he will be impeached, imprisoned, and sent BACK to Kenya where he came from and belongs.

That's an interesting take.  Makes good political sense.  Given that the MSM will protect him and other liberals (even though they don't like Obama), a shutdown or an impeachment circus would likely have a negative impact on Republicans and give Hillary or whomever wins the Democrat nomination a good talking point.

I think they would be better off sending him a series of good legislation and force him to veto so the voters will have a very clear, informed choice about what is at stake in 2016.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/10/28/immigration-officer-union-sounds-alarm-over-white-house-order-for-millions/

apparently they've already ordered the Greencards.

The GOP will do NOTHING to stop it - the Jorge Bush and Juan McCain amnesty movement is core to todays rep party. They will pout and blame but their corporate paymasters demand this.

This also means bringing in millions more illegals to replace the now-too-expensive-new-Americans  ::)

I am hoping they drag their feet - let gaybama get all pissed off and do some type of executive action that totally blows up the debate between the parties and then just move to impeach him and send him back to Africa where he belongs.

All they have to do is strongly declare their position publically and clearly contrast it with Obama's position. Thats it.

The america  public resouningly rejects amnesty/special treatment for illegals and every single poll/vote/proposition outcome has confirmed this. Even a few days ago the residents of blue state Oregon rejected giving drivers licenses to illegals by a 2-1 margin!

Literally all they have to do is clearly side with what the american people want, and they will win this battle.

agreed the public rejects it.   The base/tea party rejects it.

But Mitt said once repubs get the senate, they'll deliver amnesty.  Boehnner says "We have to do SOMETHING"   Since enforcing exisitng laws doesn't seem to work for him, lol.

Getting on the same page on amnesty needs to be job #1.  Cruz will NOT vote for some garbage amnesty bill, and GOP will squander all the political clout/momentum they have, with a party civil war resulting in the bill failing.    Cruz and Bohnner/mcconnell arguing in the DC press?   lol.   Awful.

Dude.
it should be clear to you by now that all the politicians have the same end goals. Just different means of reaching said goal.

Cruz, im sure, is no different, hes just playing a game.

Youve seem what happens when someone whos principled, and represents REAL change, decides to run.

Hes crucified by both sides.

Neither side wants someone in there who doesnt tow the line. They both fight come election time, but make no mistake, when theyre not running campaigns.... they look at each other as equals and look at us like were the flock of sheep to be used to reach the end goal.

I always lol when i hear the "1% takes all the monies! Vote "x" party, theyll change things!'....

And i think to myself, dumbass, they are the 1%  they dont want anything to change.

Mitt Romney ....WTF? ...I'm sorry...what office does Romney hold?   What influence does the man who lost to the worst President in modern history hold?

The GOP is in a far tougher spot than Obama on this issue.   He wants one thing...amnesty. He isn't up for re-election and could give a fuck about who he angers because the nation (apart from his moonbat and negro base) pretty much hates his guts already.

The GOP wants to get something done because they feel they have to to stay relevant politically.   They can't just capitulate on the issue because that would completely halt the momentum they gained from the midterms and alienate their base heading into a Presidential run.   Obama doesn't want to give them any space...he wants to play scorched earth.  If he had any sense...any sense at all...he would pull back and give the center of the GOP a chance to build a consensus on what steps they need to get to allowing the people who are already here a chance to obtain some kind of legal status.  A border fence...a path to citizenship involving paying a fine or whatever.  But  Obama isn't interested in working through the issue or actually trying to solve it...he just sees immigration as the tool he needs to completely blow Washington apart.

The GOP needs to understand that they are dealing with a psychopath.  He doesn't want to solve immigration...he KNOWS the GOP just can't capitulate, it would be political suicide.  He WANTS to act unilaterally because he knows it will completely destroy the process of governance.  Their response needs to focus on Obamacare.  You want scorched earth...great, we're going to let you go nuclear on immigration.  We're going to respond by repealing Obamacare.  They know he'll veto it, so they can follow the Cruz path of chipping away at the worst elements..the elements that people hate the most and force him to veto those.  The 10 Senate Dems up for re-election in 2016 will be forced to pick between Obama and the people.  More importantly...the less safe dems up in 2018 will have to make the same choice.  They need to understand that their chances of taking back the Senate will be nuked if they're seen as covering for Obama instead of serving the people's interests.  They will be forced to chose between an override vote and covering for Il Douchebag

Shut it down...refuse to fund any elements of immigration reform by fiat and go on the offensive against the incredibly unpopular Obamacare.  Forget about impeachment..the timeline on that process is far too long and the end result is nothing

2 years ago, despite the tea party reign, he was selected to be THE voice of the party.   His opinion does matter.

And in light of Boehnner/ryan/cantor saying the exact same things lol, I don't think Mitt is mistaken.

Cantor lost in June 2014.  And he was one of the top 3-4 voices of the GOP in terms of policy making, until then.

The big voices of the GOP - they are in support of amnesty, whether we like to admit it or not.

THe NEW voices - the rand, the cruz... they are against it.  So are the people.

Cantor and Romney are IRRELEVANT...they aren't part of the process.  They can talk about immigration until they're blue in the face and it will amount to shit because they DON'T MATTER.

well, i can cite any number of current decision makers in the GOP who support amnesty.

Rubio.  Jeb.  Boehnner.  Graham.  and many more.

http://cis.org/mortensen/establishment-republicans-support-amnesty-gun-control-next

I'm sorry, but if the reason GOP won't deliver amnesty is "nobody in GOP supports it" - That doesn't fly - a whole lot of RINOs are in support of it.

You're not reading the issue correctly....the issue isn't amnesty, it's the timing and conditions.   People like Rubio are open to a path to citizenship, but only with conditions and a strict policy of enforcing the border.  People who live here in reality recognize that you are going to have to do something to address the issue of the millions of undocumented people traipsing around our country.  Personally, I don't think you're going to convince the country as a whole that we should round them up and send them home..so you're going to have to address their status on some level.

Obama isn't interested in having that discussion, he just wants to blow the whol thing up and call everyone with boots on the ground here a citizen.  You need to understand that he is going to do this and he's going to do this now.  The debate is no longer about immigration policy, it's about how to deal with a psychopath running the show..and make no mistake, the current line being pushed by the administration is full on psycho.   Josh Ernest was mocked...literally mocked...by the WhiteHouse press corps yesterday because he wouldn't admit that the GOP won on Tuesday while the Dems lost.  Anyone with the mentality of a 3rd grader can see the crazy in that, but he CAN'T admit to t he reality of the midterm elections because doing so eliminates the "logic" behind acting on immigration right now...Obama's mandate because he "won".  The fact that that was two years ago is, apparently, irrelevant in their thinking.

You aren't going to stop executive amnesty.   The opposition needs to find ways to deal with the aftermath and punish the President for overstepping his boundaries and impeachment...for a number of very good reasons... is NOT the way to do that.

Romney s irrelevant..he holds no office...he holds no influence.  You might as well quote Sarah Palin

They did nothing.   Now we see them embracing it.  Everyone except Cruz.
