Anyone remember the MuscleMag that showed a pic of Gary when he was completely off? He was joking around making side chest pics and a biceps pic with the caption; We are always amazed in how Bodybuilders can build themselves back up" or something of that nature. I think it was 1986 or 87, Strydom looked like a tennis player...he is that skinny.

after wfb i believe 93/94 shoulder issue/surgery,,he rebounded to comeback 96 at 260 noc i think he skipped night show or bowed out at prejudge..

Strydom hurt his career by leaving the IFBB but he did make a lot of money in that WWF bodybuilding federation. He had everything to be a Mr. Olympia except for a great back. He came in really lean for this contest.

really giving haney a run for his money there. imo better from the front.

the guy had one of the greatest physiques of all time. who cares what his back looked like when he 'posed'.

This. I've seen Gary in his prime doing a photo shoot for Flex right after the '88 Olympia. He was hard and dense and very impressive. Lee had a shoot 15 minutes later. That's when I was really impressed! Pictures never did Lee justice. His lats were U shaped, and his chest was super thick. Dense as well. Great guy as well. Very humble. Signed my weight belt, and it didn't cost me 20 bucks...  ;D

He's not close to Haney in that pose , admittedly he came in small & depleted for this show but he was awful from the back

He really had no back, totally the opposite compared to Dillett... From the front probably the best pro in the 80s, but disappeared from the back... Of course the comparison with Yates and Coleman is about how they look today, not at their best...

THERE is a good video of his 88 posing routine clear ,his face say's it all'condition wise.dude was shredded /waist was ridiculous and abs /intercostals /serratus were peeled,chest /delts were capped and lined all over,for him he was small ,and cause he's tall too,20/30 lbs like 89 version or wbf he's a monster,amazing he could pull that off ,,demey was on that yr and he was going more for the conditioned look too,strydom had all the major bodyparts over him,but gary was being compared to gary and his past he was bigger 87..
