One arm dumbbell rows and hammer strength machine rows are superior rowing exercises than any form of barbell bent over rows !!! ;)
Plus barbell bent over rows is a very dangerous exercise for the lower back just like squat, deadlift and t-bar rows !!!

I have to agree with Big Ro.Richs back does look like shit.I seen him up close at the Mr O expo, and his arms and even his chest doesnt look real.I swear to you. When he moves his arsm they dont move.
When he bends his arms they dont get any bigger.
People asked him to felx his biceps, he wouldnt?
Usually when you have big arms when you bend your arms they get bigger.
Richs arms are the same size bent as they are straight.?
Does he have impants or synthol?
They dont look real, neither does his shoulders
If you look at his competition pics, he doesnt have a peak.He has log arms
They were deently big, but shaped like a log.
I like that he speaks his mind.I wouldnt call him a bodybuilder though.
Yes he has a pro card. But his body isnt complete.
He just has these big corney arms that dont look real, at all
His shoulders same thing, bug butt look animated.
Chest, again doesnt look like its muscle.
Rich is a big guy, seems cool.Speaks his mind.
Would I take advice from him.Hell no.
Like I said before, he has a few big but enhanced body parts.
Which look to be snythol, or implants.
He is a big guy with big arms, big shoulders,a decent chest, .
Back is no real big, legs, they are always covered up?
He is definatly a conversation pieace, lol

No he doesn't have a pro card and he is full of PMMA not synthol.

Yates' style rows will focus more on upper back and rhomboid thickness lower lat insertion and mass come from other exercises like dumbbell.

Next time you try your rows keep upper body at about 45 degrees/12 in 12 slope to the floor and pyramid up to a weight you can handle for 8 with some slightly assisted momentum for 3 working sets. Don't bother going below 6-8 reps. Moderate to heavy weight.
Srip the bar down to say 135 and bend further so your back is at around 20 degrees to the floor and rep out as many as you can beyond any pain threshold you have ever experienced , for 3 sets.

This combined with heavy deads twice per month for couple years will make the back look like it can rip the floorboards off.

Your back can never be too big

It is not rocket science.

bollocks, they hit the lower lat powerfully if you do it right.

well

whats the actual point of doing barbell rows over dumbell, seatead cable and machine rows ?
i mean to me the dumbell is vastly superior ROM wise

barbell seems to add nothing more than lower back injury risks to me

I don't like db rows, and I think they are the biggest ego exersize in the gym....

Yates has always rowed at 70 degrees, curl grip and pronated.. You can't use and challenging weight if your bent over parallel to the floor as your lower back becomes the weak link.

If you can 'feel' rows the Yates way youl feel nothing but pitty for those that can't, as youl know they will more than likely have a poor back genetically

That being said, I do like his videos

Arnie does them right. Yates is more of an upper back trap exercise.

Arnie does them right. Yates is more of an upper back trap exercise.

its really not. My whole back feels it, especially lower lats. I do 90 degree bent rows pulling bar to lower chest to focus more on upper back.

why all the comparing dumbell to barbell rows? they're not the same as the hand is in neutral position with dumbells. YOu can't pronate or supinate heavy weights with dumbells, so the barbell is needed for different hand postitions. As far as how much do you bend? There is no one size fits all here, there never is, so vids like that, bofff, useless unless totally clueless.

Lot's of guys with huge ass backs doing it "wrong" according to that fuckhead Piana who made the video, can't stand how he talks, sounds super condescending, he can eat shit, as usual.

I do these with dumbbells.

DBs in my gym go up to 450 lbs so there is plenty of weight for me.

Funny thing people arguing about the best way to do stuff.

Cause we aren't all the same.

If BigRo feels it at 90 degrees and someone else feels it at 70 - does it mean one of them has to be wrong?

Everyone is different, I like somewhere in between the two, experiment and find the angle that you feel the greatest contraction in the lats and go from there

agree with him, using old school way

Disagree. I do these much more upright and I feel the injury risk is much lower as there is far less pressure on the lower spine . Further, it is my goal to stimulate the traps, upper back and rear delts with this exercise. To stimulate the lats, I do seated rows and chins. Hence, doing them more upright works very well for the upper back and other exercises are safer for lats.

I meant to say I also do them old school style on a platform which for me targets more the middle/upper back

Agreed.
For lats Pull ups >>> rows.
Rows for traps, rear delts and other smaller muscles of the upper back.

That intro to his videos make me cringe every time. His PMAA arms don't even flex like real muscle.
