So, what's your point.  All indications point to him being a sincere Muslim, praying 5 times a day and participating in Ramadan.  His family sure believed his conversion, his mum even wearing a headscarf to show a sign of respect to her sons new found faith after he was beheaded.  If he knew his situation was hopeless, why bother converting and why would his mum continue the charade.  If he did indeed convert in a hope for mercy, this in itself shows his naivety.
