country music is a difficult music genre, there is so much corny uptempo shit with silly lyrics that is hard to listen to, but once in a while i stumble upon something that is alright, mostly ballads...
as for johnny cash i prefer the late cash with his covers of modern songs.

Later Brooks and Dunn, Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, Reba and other late 80s and 90s country.

I think a good way to distinguish, would be asking yourself if you would sing along to it in public. If yes, then it's not real Country music   For example, i'm on the bus and Randy Travis 'Forever and ever' comes on i'm like "This is my tune!!!!!!" but you don't sing along to it.
