Makes me cringe seeing everyone walking around with their phones out paying no attention to their surroundings. Is this the old man in me talking or anyone else bothered by this?
They want to feel more important than they really are. Deep down inside, they realize their lives mean nothing in the grand, cosmic scheme of things. If they were to die tomorrow,a few people would mourn, but everyone else would go about their business. Thus, they wrap themselves in their little bubble of self-importance to mask feelings of being alone and scared in this world. In this bubble, they have a selected group of people who make them feel important. Usually its people on social media sites such as Facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. They are constantly on their phones and "chatting" with people about the every day nonsense that we all experience. All the drama they create in their world to feel important. While they text on their phone, they feel very important. They are most likely just talking to a friend about some crap that no one really cares about. But they think that other people are passing them by and are impressed because they are connected to someone else.
This is not much different than the behavior amongst bodybuilders.
