Flying first class with a baby?
« on: November 29, 2014, 10:10:14 AM »
Taking a trip next month with the family and I'm debating on whether or not to fly first class, as I'm traveling with a 22 month old. It will be a 1 hour flight, connect, then a 4 hour flight. I've never flown with a child before and am worried about what the other people will think. Part of me thinks, fuck it, if he's pissed better for me to be comfortable than not, but part of me thinks it would be a dick move to ruin someone's flight that paid for a first class ticket. Thanks.

Don't be an asshole, leave the kid at home. Nobody wants to hear a crying baby on a 4 hour flight.

you can't help a crying baby on the airplane. Some others will be understanding of that, but others will just get aggravated

If somebody is paying for first class, they're expecting to be pampered. A crying baby is probably not included in this vision.

Just get business or economy

Kids almost two so should not be a big deal unless he takes tantrums.  Give him a little Benadryl and he should be fine.

I wouldn't recommend it.

It can be a nightmare travelling with kids that age and 4 hours on a plane.. Jeez forget about it

No getting away from it, he's going with us. Just a matter of whether or not I want to Piss off the first class cabin or economy. He's usually pretty good, not many tantrums or anything. I've never flown with him before, so I'll probably go the benadryl route.  Was hoping jephrius would chime in on this, as he is a frequent flyer of first class.

it's even worse in coah as you're so much more crowded with the others.
Would rather have a crying baby next to me than some 400lbs fat ass...

Bring your kid on first class. Screw the people in first class. They have no superior rights over anyone else. Give me a whole break with the stupid shit, "They paid extra to be pampered, so they should not have to deal with a screaming baby/kid." They shouldn't have paid for a first class ticket. They should have played it safe and paid for a coach ticket, in case its a shitty flight. Every person, adult or child, has a right to fly in coach or first class. If the people in first class dont like it, tough.

Here's something I would recommend you ask your Pediatrician about.....Benadryl.

First generation anti-histamines, while typically used for allergies in older kiddies and adults, can technically be given to infants as well. They can generally provide them with a nice 3-4 hours of sleep. I wouldn't recommend you do this on a daily basis or even develop a pattern of any sort, but for a flight, it comes in very handy.

There are charts you can use online to determine the exact dose to give (the dosage is usually 1 mg/kg).

If you consider using it, PLEASE GIVE YOUR PEDIATRICIAN A CALL FIRST AND ASK. I am pretty certain that it can be given to a 22 month old (dosage based on weight), but call your doc first and run it by him/her to get the final green light.

If the airline didn't want young children in first class they would make a rule against it.  Knock yourself out, and knock the kid out, as has been suggested.  Four hours is a long time to expect a kid that age to sit around quietly and be well behaved.

I suggested it because I tested it. It was a long time ago but there was a dosing schedule even for infants.

Good call. I was gonna suggest a half tab of Gravol. Knock that kid out. Everybody wins.

Sorry Walter, I didn't even notice you suggested it up above.

I suggested it, because I've seen it used by family on their children.

Reminds me when my ex and I decided try this new restaurant and they allowed the couple to use the table right near us to change their baby.
Real classy, really had us there enjoying the moment...

Buy yourself a first class ticket.  Leave wife and kid in coach.  Why has no one said this yet?

That is just too clear, simple and obvious. And tell them you don't wanna be disturbed during your lobster dinner...
