Here's something I would recommend you ask your Pediatrician about.....Benadryl.

First generation anti-histamines, while typically used for allergies in older kiddies and adults, can technically be given to infants as well. They can generally provide them with a nice 3-4 hours of sleep. I wouldn't recommend you do this on a daily basis or even develop a pattern of any sort, but for a flight, it comes in very handy.

There are charts you can use online to determine the exact dose to give (the dosage is usually 1 mg/kg).

If you consider using it, PLEASE GIVE YOUR PEDIATRICIAN A CALL FIRST AND ASK. I am pretty certain that it can be given to a 22 month old (dosage based on weight), but call your doc first and run it by him/her to get the final green light.

I used to fly first class a LOT... both domestic and international.  The service and the amenities are nothing like they were 10 years ago.  Unless you are flying in Europe or across an ocean, it's not worth it.  If you are flying in the US, all you'll get is a larger seat, free booze and a free meal (only flights that are over 2-3 hours long).  Airlines have tighten their belts and are nickel and diming you for EVERYTHING now.  Glad I don't have to fly anymore... it's pure torture.

There is really no way to tell if your baby will cry during the flight.  Some kids sleep the whole flight, others cry the entire time.  Airlines are much more tolerant of things today.  People are allowed to bring animals with them on the flight, as long as they claim their animal is a "service" animal.  It's total bullshit!  The last flight I took was a coast to coast US Air nonstop flight in first.  The lady next to me had a small dog with her (no carrier).  The dog was licking the water from my glass and trying to eat the food off my plate.  I think it farted a few times too.

I've only recently had the financial chutzpah to fly 1st class occasionally and to be honest I've been underwhelmed.  The extra space is nice and you're less likely to sit beside a disgusting miscreant but I'm not sure if that's worth paying double the price or more.

In the early 1900s they used to place children in a bathysphere and tow them behind ocean liners.  No changes in air pressure meant no crying.  Is the toddler still small enough to fit in a pressure cooker?  You could hold it on your lap for safekeeping or just check it in (don't include the plug tho, just in case).

Taking a trip next month with the family and I'm debating on whether or not to fly first class, as I'm traveling with a 22 month old. It will be a 1 hour flight, connect, then a 4 hour flight. I've never flown with a child before and am worried about what the other people will think. Part of me thinks, fuck it, if he's pissed better for me to be comfortable than not, but part of me thinks it would be a dick move to ruin someone's flight that paid for a first class ticket. Took my baby (when she was about 6 through 8 months) plenty of times on the plane, and twice on first class for a five hour flight (best money I've ever spent), luckily so far my girl had been a great flyer... Even on one red eye she didn't make a peep.

Most important thing is to be prepared have everything you need and plenty of distractions for your kid.  Keep calm and cool... That will also help your kid keep calm and cool.

And no its not a dick move, you paid for the first class tickets just like anyone else in that cabin.  If someone complains tell them to move their ass back with the cattle if they're not happy.  You're bringing another human being with you not some wild animal.


PS.  The one trip I didn't put my girl in a onesie, and in sweat pants instead, she took a shit as she was sleeping on me, then somehow it migrated up her diaper, out of her pants and all over my hands... Passengers next to me got up as quick as possible when I needed to make a run with her to the bathroom

Why should the baby have to deal with the people in first class? Furthermore, did the baby want to go on the trip? Does the baby like flying? Screw you adults, a baby shouldn't have to put up with your wants and desires.
