You're 100% correct. I thought the context was someone in a compatible age. I also didn't say anything that implied perversion, most of us have known people that date/married others much older and younger.

Also I'm using the word friendship,  not friendly or acquaintance, but someone you'd spend time with in social activities/settings in one on one situations, a confidant.

I meant western society has taught us to believe in ideas of fairy tale romance type relationships (and I know that they do happen but they're rare. For every Arnold that makes it as a movie star there's a million Dennis Wolf's struggling through a reading).

The other prevailing idea is that you marry your best friend,  which is an idea I support. However in opposite friend relationships,  even if clear boundaries have been explained and agreed upon, feelings inevitably develop on one side, which will lead to disaster if they're not eventually reciprocated.

Maybe you're a  guy that can have multiple female friends and not have romantic feelings for them and they not have the same for you,  it has and can be done, but usually it doesn't end well.

Also how would you handle your wife having a 60-year-old male friend ( I'm not saying anything sexual), we can make it a male coworker even that she meets weekly for coffee, outside of work?

I had this debate with a male buddy of mine the other day. I'm of the mindset that it's unlikely a straight male would have any genuine female 'friends', i.e a female version of your male buddies, unless there's an ulterior motive (getting into her pants, has a hot friend/friends etc).
