Personally, I LOVE the idea that anyone receiving public $ should be able to pass a drug test.

They don't drug test teachers, cops or politicians, for the most part, right?  Cops can SHOOT someone and we never see the blood work.   You have to piss in a cup to work at McDonalds, but not to be in congress, making the decisions that can wreck our entire country?

Makes no sense.  If you hold public office, you should be willing to stay the fck off illegal drugs.

I'm really not worked up about this.

I've done drugs...they're fun.  I'm okay with people who have the money to buy them doing them for fun as well.
I'm also okay with telling people "if you can't afford food and need taxpayers to buy it for you, then you shouldn't have money for drugs."

If he was a Congressman when he bought drugs, then he used taxpayer money to buy drugs.

Exactly. If he didn't want to use the drug-testing measures to try to ensure that some standard was being met: then why did he want it?

I was all in on the "who gives a shit" Train"
But Dos has a point. His stance on drugs makes it look sketchy as hell.
Still, it pisses me off that i know people who use my tax money to buy drugs.
ITs not quite the same because one is a salary and one is a handout.

Obviously one works and the other doesn't, but both are receiving taxpayer money.  Both are using taxpayer money to buy drugs.  Sad that you fail to make the connection.

Dos is taking it one step further i think, and rightfully so. He is techinically PAID by tax dollars, for a job that he completes. But in the grand scheme of things, he gets tax payer money, and uses drugs. The same drugs, for the same money he wants others to test for.

yes both use tax dollars, but one gets it as a payment for services rendered after taxpayers agreed and chose to pay him....the other is given money AT THE disgust of the taxpayers and without their consent

sad you cant understand that I pay military payrolls happily, but would not give one red cent to the beggars

He wanted to hold people to a standard that he was failing miserably at.

and he would only be a hypocrite if he voted NO on the drug test for congressmen....which I would support!

Ok.. heres the deal. One guy gets paid by tax payers, and he buys dope with that tax payer.
And its the same guy that says in order to be eligable for tax dollars you must be drug tested.

Thats pretty cut and dry to me

What's sad is that you don't care that a Congressman takes your tax dollars and uses them to buy drugs, while at the time voting for legislation that requires drug testing of welfare recipients.  Blatant hypocrisy.

I don't mind having my tax dollars used as a safety net (not a hammock) to help those in need, so I don't pay with disgust.  What I do oppose is waste, fraud, and abuse.

One guy receives payment for service...ITS his earned money, we the electorate promised payment for service. He can spend his money on whatever he wishes, lawfully (but that another conversation).

The other beggar, begs us for food and spends it on drugs.

It is cut and dry.

Do you expect him to live by the same standards he would try to hold others to, particularly when it comes to drug use?

The morality and or legality of his actions is not my point, he should be voted out next term or jailed. His vote IS representing MY opinion, he has done everything his electorate elected him to do!
