Depends on the individual really but I find most men with real functional strength are in their 30s

this can only really apply to an average male who doesn't train, who goes through teens, gets stronger as an adult and then declines. People that train will continue to get that bit stronger if they push for it. Or be stronger at an older age than a man who does no training.

i agree. whats with this 20 year old having peak strength lol. take a 35 year old man and a 21 year old, and keep all variables constant, the 35 year old man, for the most part, will be stronger. obviously there are exceptions to every rule. however, the average man in his 30's is going to be stronger than a 22 year old.

My Best lifts were between ages 44-54 (so far).  Lifted in teens- 20. Then started again at 25- current. None of my best lifts were achieved with a few years training. It took a while. At 54 strength isn't a problem, stamina is not as high, and get injured if I get too loose or train too often.

Endurance peaks at about 20-21, stength around 25-27, and functional strength around 30 ish.

You have that backwards.

Agility, speed, explosiveness, reflexes--these peak in the mid 20's

Endurance, work capacity--these peak around 30-35

Limit strength--peaks towards late 30's

Just take a look at the ages of the top athletes in various disciplines to get an idea of when various skills tend to peak.

That must be why the average age of Boston marathon winners since 2000 is almost 29 years old with no single winner younger than 22.

I've read that at 22 a man is pretty much in his physical prime...but the strongest powerlifters are usually in their 30's and 40's. so what gives?

For you guys who've been training for decades, what  age were your weights at their peak?
You are so fucking stupid I just wanna put you out of your misery, it would be best for everyone.

For me when I was around 23-24. I was dumbell pressing the 120's (per hand) for reps. I was natural too. Not been able to get anywhere close since then. But that could also be that my priorities changed. I'm not trying to push that weight any more. I get just as much out of pressing half that weight. I've left ego training behind years ago. Now if I really wanted to press that weight again, I should be able to do so with a bit of strength training. There's just no reason to. I've zero interest in impressing anyone. Much less some irrelevant knob in the gym.

Drug free, I started getting weaker at 38, although at 42 I had a resurgence for some reason and was again able to do 2-3 sets of 5 with 315(bench). Then, it was a gradual weakening until I was ashamed to bench anymore.

same here, today i just make a weight feel like more. After getting really sore tender elbows from heavy dumbells extensions i realised training to see how strong i can be isn't worth it. I probably got my best results from them but don't even entertain the idea.

I'm 44. Soon to be 45. Been weight training since I was 15 (1985). I am still gaining strength.

The physical attributes lost at an early age (lateral foot speed, etc.) are NOT important in the pursuit of absolute strength. Hence why strength athletes very often "peak" at relatively advanced ages (40s-50s). If one does not use/abuse anabolic drugs, and therefore ruin his his hormone system and joints, etc., to develop crazy strength well in the middle-age period is very doable.

Most popular sports (baseball, football, basketball, gymnastics, etc.) rely on those attributes that are at their greatest when young.

Functional strength is key.

having two functional arms is key.

you don't. you have one shitty one, and one useless, gnarled appendage that looks like a branch stuck in the side of a snowman.

I know I've been harping on you a lot to kll yourself, but i think it could be really good for you.  if not, who cares you're dead, LOL

When factoring ones natural recovery time, muscle maturity, range of motion and lung capacity i'd say the sweet spot is somewhere in the late 20's to early 30's.

People are different some mature faster than others. Some take longer to mature.
