No wonder there are so many police shootings if they hire people like this chances are they are hiring just about anybody and that includes  people who are not mentally prepared or mature enough to handle hostile situations.

Almost every country.  probably not russia though, but just go to USA, Canada, Irleland, Britain, France and you'll see this shit everywhere.  I Mexico most cops aren't fat but are about 5 tall.

as a cop who has tried to stay in shape throughout my career it's tough to see some of my co-workers have let themselves go over the years. Unless you are on walking beat or bicycle patrol, police work is mostly sedentary. Lot of driving, standing, a little walking and the ocassional burst of cardio for short periods. Many meals consist of whatever drive thru is open at 4 am and you eat sitting in your car. As a Detective it's even worse. So if they don't take it upon themselves to make an effort to eat right, and get excercise after work, eventually they look like crap and die shortly after retirement. There are no weight restrictions allowed per ADA rules, it's up to the criteria "can the person perform the job" and it's not really challenged very often. I've seen a Fit for Duty inquiry about 3 times in 22 years for some extreme cases but it's not common. It's embarrassing to me when someone is a physical mess in uniform.     

There are departments who have pride. The NJ State Police have an annual physical where they have to qualify 1.5 mile run for time and other physical tests. If they are not met then you are disqualified from promotion and various job selections. Fail repeatedly and it's your job.  NJ isn't the only one. Many of the elite swat type teams have physical standards too.  

No excuse for fat slob cops. I'm sure they are found in every profession but policing is in many cases a swing shift eat when you are able too type of job. If any one thinks working decades of crazy shifts isn't bad for your body then they never worked them.
