Man of Steel Question for You
« on: December 07, 2014, 07:13:59 PM »
zero trolling--dead serious question

What do you think happens to people after we die? Im curious what someone who seems quite religious thinks? Although I am zero religious I really believe some kind of soul or energy leaves our body

The electricity stops flowing through our nervous system, the blood stops pumping, and entropy takes over returning us to dust. From dust to dust.

Believing in a soul in this day and age is delusional.

i have no idea i just hope there is something because life here is to short

One chance.

When you die I suspect it's like what things were like before you were born, but I don't remember what that was like.

What I don't understand is why did my consciousness suddenly come into existence at a certain point in time in this body?

Yes, I understand a sperm fertilized an egg, but that doesn't really answer the question.

I could have been conscious in another person, or an animal, or an alien on another planet, or still non existent at the present time.

Shit doesn't make sense.

It makes perfect sense. The consciousness that you're experiencing is just a consequence of the electrical signals in your particular brain. Your brain is your brain, that's why you are you. You could not have been conscious in another person, or an animal, or an alien on another planet. Animals/consciousnesses are just collections of matter that followed the right conditions to produce life.

Why did it arise in the first place?

You answer is superficial, typical of someone with an average IQ.

It arose in the first place because the laws of physics enabled it. The universe that we are in has enabled matter to produce the complexity that we call life (evolution).
Your conscious self-awareness is just a byproduct of that complexity.

Nothing wrong with being average.

Agreed.

Most people never face these questions without anysense of depth.

If you did you'd realize that religion got more of a dog in this than most people realize.

How did everything come from nothing?

Even if your a bunch of electrical signals, how the fuck does that make you you.

Being dead is probably the same as pre-life. You just don't exist.

We have no idea whether everything came from nothing or whether it came from something.

It makes you you because you're you. You have a neural network that is complex enough to ponder these questions. You're you because your brain signals are stuck within your particular neural network (brain). Evolution explains the rise of complexity, we're just a consequence of the laws of physics.

You understand adding the word "physics" doesn't add depth to the answer nor does the catch all of "evolution" cover the remaining unanswered.

What laws of physics support the development of consciousness and what is consciousness?

How did the generic universe enable matter?  What matter?  The material state produced a seemingly immaterial state because of swirling stardust and time?  Time allowed for brains to randomly and unpurposefully evolve which caused synapses to fire which generated self awareness, creativity, emotion and a vast array of completely intangible thoughts?

I apologize for implying you are average, it came out of frustration.

What I'm trying to say is that, from the beginning of the big bang, 13.8xxxx billion years elapsed, then all of a sudden my consciousness arises. What determined that it would occur at that moment in the timeline of the universe, in a particular location in that universe?

It seems random, or is it?

It's not random at all. From that moment of inception fate determined it. You became part of the timeline.

You came into being at that particular time and location because you're extremely lucky. Try and make the best of it. :)

The ole "deluded" dodge....it's always the opener or the closer.

Maybe next I could "go read a book".

FYI I actually revised my initial reply...it includes more questions.

The question of JC's existence is not that important. Even more importantly, is how much does he lift?

Im guessing he can easily bench press 4 planets, 36 clouds, and a multi-universe.

I think "dying" is kind of plastic.

Some people "die" but they are in a coma.

Some people "die" and then a surprisingly long time later they are brought back to life.

You can't "trick" a non-materilaistic view of life and say: "HEY! this guys was dead, and now he is not, therefore your view of an afterlife is invalid!

Just as an afterlife is fluid, so is "life."

I believe one of the reasons why we have many questions about death, or we focus a lot on death is really the uncertainty of death. With life, we know it goes on. We are sure of that. We also take for granted that we wake up day after day. We take for granted our lives, and most today are not grateful or thankful for the life that they have or their loved ones. And so when death comes, it seems like the "finale", and we would like to know how is it at the end? We want to be assured of something that we don't know about, until it happens to us. And nobody has really come back and said, "death is like..."
If I were to hazard a guess, I probably think that death is like life and both form an infinite loop (life-death, life death). And it is needed for life to go on, just as life is needed by death to go on.

Being dead is probably the same as pre-life. You just don't exist.

I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.

I decided to keep my response simple and honest.

When we die our bodies simply decay and are gone.....the shell eventually turns to dust.  I dont understand all the medicine behind decay but in general that occurs.

I am a man of faith and as such believe the essence of each of us is our soul.  When we die that spiritual essenece or soul continues to exist in the presence of God or seperated from God.
