They will lose, but it will cost everybody millions in legal fees. The only winners are the lawyers.

The families are all millionaires now through government and public donations.

Well you can feel safe knowing that his school is a NO GUN ZONE, where all law abiding citizens will be unarmed.

I was a teacher a decade ago.   It was during a time when nationally, school violence was an issue.  I'm a huge "concealed carry permit" guy.   And I was never able to carry on campus, even though I worked at one of the toughest schools in this part of the state.  Some of my students had arrests for serious crimes, and violence was sometimes their first option.  They talked about weapons all of the time, as it was middle school and they're little grownups at that point.  When a poor, angry kid from a violent home starts puberty, they can really be unpredictable.  Put 30+ of them in a small classroom, it can be a powder keg.

All you can do as a teacher is smile, pray for the best, and prepare every way you can, inside the system.  I always placed my steel desk at the best strategic angle to the door.  I kept a spare flagpole and more importantly, a chunk of cinder block (used by the previous teacher as a door jam) handy, to use in case I had to protect this room full of students from a shooter on campus.  And if I ever heard shots on campus, I would ORDER every student in that class to ATTACK that shooter the moment they entered - and I'd be leading that charge!  I might catch a bullet in the belly, but the group will take that shooter down.

it wasn't perfect, not by any measure. BUT if every teacher had this kind of aggressive plan - where the shooter KNEW he woudl be getting his head beat in, even if he took a few people down first - then people might not try such madness.  I admire the school workers that took down that recent shooter earlier this year.  Would love to see more of that - these are the biggest heroes of our society.

Cops die young from stress - they're a target every day - but they get to carry a gun, wear a vest, etc.   As a teacher, I was legally able to keep gun on campus (in vehicle only), so I would park as close to classroom as possible - BUT in reality I knew if there was a shooter it would most likely be me facing him unarmed.

We were the last school students attended before being moved to the alternative center - we had 1 cop on campus, but it was almost a mile campus from corner to corner, so you knew you'd be on your own for a few minutes if shooting started.  We had confiscated knives and maybe 2 guns the whole year, but it never went beyond fights with fists, thankfully.

I dislike most parts of life where guns are banned.   I avoid those places.  I prefer the UPS/local mail store, over the USPS, because legally, you cannot carry in a post office.  There are measures in place at schools now, which is nice.  They do drills, etc.  And with computers, cell phones, etc - response time is probably very quick now.  This was a decade ago when I taught.  I just tried to prepare and I knew which students, unfortunately, got a little more leeway because their older brother was in jail for shooting someone, etc.   You knew guns were in the home and that wolf was in their blood.  Sad, but it's reality.  It's a choice you make when you choose this profession.  Teachers are braver than they get credit for being.

I could have deadlifted my way to classroom management success, but I lacked the inner warrior to do so.

in my old highschool u would hear of teachers getting stabbed, jumped ect cause they sent a letter home and the kid got introuble,or confronted a kid/kids for being in hallway or not being in class.teachers would come and go quick cause of the violence and that hurt the good kids that really wanted to learn

I wonder if the kids had been stabbed instead of shot the parents would be suing the company that made the knives...

If they had been run over by a Ford truck they would be suing Ford...

Killed by box cutters suing UPS...

killed by lightning suing science...
