When we were kids we believed in Santa Claus. The presents were there under the Christmas tree. We had the Bible read to us in high school. Nobody doubted that Jesus existed. Jews and others didn't accept him as the Messiah. Surely Jesus walked on Earth and died on a cross?
Imagine my dismay when a respected historian tells us that when he used sound investigative techniques he couldn't establish that Jesus ever existed on Earth. There are no eye witnesses! Zero, none, nil. Pontious Pilate and the Gospels were fabricated much later by people who had never met Jesus.
If what Carrier says is highly probable, then we have to conclude there is no evidence for Jesus. That means Christianity is nothing but a sham. We now have good reasons to discard these fabricated religions and toss them into the philosophical garbage can where they belong.
What an awful thing the religious leaders have done to humanity. It is worse than bullshit because some of those beliefs are truly evil.

Just the opposite. The lack of evidence suggests we accept that Christ did not exist here on Earth. What Carrier found is that

it is something like 1 in 12000 against Jesus being an actual man on Earth. He existed in a celestial realm above the clouds.

Today that belief is preposterous so that idea gets tossed out as well. Carrier challenges the apologists to come up with peer reviewed evidence for

the historicity of Christ. So far all we have is faith and that is hardly evidence. If I were a Christian I would feel totally cheated and deceived by

everyone who represents the churches. Shame on all of them. It is up to the Church to come up with evidence. The atheists do not have to prove

that Christ didn't walk on the earth. They merely have to doubt that it ever happened and the lack of any evidence suggests the atheists are right.
