New MD Cover
« on: February 21, 2006, 09:17:44 AM »
We are proud to feature 2005 Nationals Super-Heavyweight and Overall Champion Bill Willmore on the next cover of MD.

Bill was runner up at the Nationals two years in a row.  He fought a long, hard fight to turn pro.  He is in every sense of the word, a warrior, a true champion, and therefore deserves top billing on the cover this month.

I do like the word "KILLER" right over the picture of Titus & Ryan. The entire phase is "KILLER LEGS", but the inference is excellent.  ;D

they really do photoshop the covers.  I would also imagine maybe they do some photoshop on the other photos as well.

Trains at my gym.  Looks good.  Doom approves.

As for Photoshopping covers, these days, anyone with a brain knows that virtually all magazines manipulate cover photos. From Vogue, to Time, to your favorite body building rag, they have all been doing it for years.

Sorry he ain't that big. there was a picture in MD last month of when he won holding his arms up and he looked pretty skinny. In one of the guru articles they were complaining he didn't deserve to win.

Bill is a very nice guy in person and congrats on getting his pro card, but he's got no future in Pro Bodybuilding.  3rd tier at best.

the last few over all national champs have not really done anything on the pro level.  Duvall is out of the "sport" Cook is floundering around...I never thought he was all that good...now Willmore...I just don't see him doing all that well.  I might be wrong, who knows.  It seems like they award size, as in "he's a super heavy so give it to him" over anything else.   Yeah it looks good on paper when a 250+ pounder wins but if they are not complete and polished they shouldn't get the overall.  Back in the day a guy like Shawn or Vince Taylor or Strydom could win the overall at the nationals and step right on a pro stage and be a force, now a days the over all winner-usually the SH-is getting smoked by everyone else he beat to be a pro.  Get rid of the SH class, it's a joke.

With all the head-shrinking on that rag's covers, why can't they show Chris Cormier some love?  Help a brother out.

Interesting, check out the list of NPC National overall champs since 1991:

1991:  Kevin Levrone
1992:  John Sherman
1993:  Michael Francois
1994:  Paul DeMayo
1995:  Don Long
1996:  Willie Stallings
1997:  Tom Prince
1998:  Jason Arntz
1999:  Aaron Maddron
2000:  Victor Martinez
2001:  Johnnie O. Jackson
2002:  Toney Freeman
2003:  Mat DuVall
2004:  Chris Cook
2005:  Bill Wilmore

With two notable exceptions (Levrone and Martinez) that list reads like a Who's Who of pro bodybuilding mediocrity (not counting a few guys who could've been great but self-destructed).

just what i was saying, it's gotten really bad over the last few years..Toney Freeman is probably doing the best out of all of those guys and he struggles to get into the top 6 at a show like the ironman.  Haney, Paris, Christian, Williams, Strydom, Ray, Taylor..they were all threats to just about any pro title when they became pro's except Williams cause he fell off the face of the earth for awhile..now it's a different story.  Did the quality of the champs go down?  I think so, cook is a prime example.  He has loads of potential but he should not be a pro just yet.  He's a work in progress.  Look at Shawn, he could have stepped offstage at the nationals and walked onto the olympia stage looking the exact same and been top 5, maybe even top 3, same with Taylor and guys like levrone.  Martinez took a few years to hit his stride but he's not who I was really tlaking about, more about the supers who are given an overall because they are just big but they get crushed as pro's.  Willmore is a very big man but when I looked at the pics from the nationals I don't think he's gonna do any real damage.
