Whats The Purpose Of Bodybuilding Magazines?
« on: December 30, 2014, 07:44:54 AM »
Like really, why would anyone buy a bodybuilding magazine? Training articles....lol. Lets face it, any moron asking about training or wanting to see what steroid induced guys do are insane. If you train natural, you can't really do what they do and if you have no idea what exercises build arms, back, etc. etc. you really shouldn't be lifting. What people fail to realize is this isn't rocket science. Unless you want to do some of those CrossFit craziness where they make up the exercises as they go along then ask.

Agreed...they actually serve no purpose any more....and they have just become a book full of ads and stupid work out routines that are recycled and presented as "this bodybuilder's secret routine to build muscle"....

That being said it will be a sad day when they are totally gone forever and are strictly on line..I still stop and peruse them out of habit when I see them on the newsstand.....and I buy about two per year if it has an enticing cover

Great abs = hard work and great diet. Abs are make in the kitchen. You have to cut the body fat in order to see them, and you need to work them so that once you can see them, they are worth looking at.

Every out of shape blob uses the "genetics" excuse.

This is sage advice. You must be a personal trainer. I shall call you "the trainer" from here on.

Hahaha, you are half right but also delusional. Abs, traps, calves are all in a different ball game. Most of these bodybuilders don't even train abs or forearms. I wish I had the old Muscle and Fitness from 1978 that had the interview with Robby. He said he couldn't waste his time training abs since they are always at work. He stated his abs got more work balancing with shoulder presses than sit ups. Mind you he's on hormones but having abs is low bodyfat and genetics. No person that is a classic endomorph is ever...EVER GOING TO HAVE ABS WITHOUT HORMONES, DIET AND WORK. Take out the hormones and he doesn't have abs.

Once upon a time; training equipment and books about training were advertised in magazines.

Now, 100% of the ads are for supplements that don't deliver lasting results.

its always the guys that are born with great abs that say this....unless you diet yourself way down which most people are incapable of doing, you won't have washboard abs....don't perpetuate a myth

The myth is that you can't cut body fat for whatever "excuse." Start by cutting all carbs out of your diet, you'll see fat loss. You just don't want to stop stuffing your fat face with carbs. That's most fatties' problem.

At one time they served as the news center of Bodybuilding. Unless you knew someone that attended a show you would not hear about the outcome for weeks or months. The muscle mags served the purpose and added commentary. Outside the gym they became the community of bodybuilding. Today we are on line 24/7. Unfortunately we also see/read from the dregs of humanity on line. The muscle mags filtered all of that.

We have evolved. I sold big rigs for 44 years. When I started I hand wrote proposals, took trade-in photos and credit apps. It took several weeks to close a sale. FAX machines were not yet invented.   Now you do it all on line and if you take more that 4 hours for the whole damn transaction your competition gets the order. Bodybuilding reporting and articles have evolved the same.

All media is supported with advertising. The mags are now half ads. Dinosaurs.

Excellent points Mr. MB. And, maybe the useless training articles didn't help much either.
