would you swap UK life for US life?
« on: January 05, 2015, 11:31:04 AM »
Anglophones tend to find it easier migrating to another English speaking country.

Would you brits give it a go given the chance?

I'd give it a go - I would have to choose Vegas based on experience (been three times in the past for holidays - two weeks each time wasn't enough for me). Nice sunny weather (maybe too hot in the height of summer though), property is cheap in comparison to the UK, huge 24-hour gyms in the locale, great restaurants on the Strip. Would love to give it a go if I had the chance.

Been to New York as well but to be honest I wouldn't want to live there. Too built up and most of the people I met were abrupt as hell.

I would live in Knoxville again - I loved that place.

I've spent a lot of time in California and I couldn't make it my home. LA is fun to visit but not to live.

I think if anywhere, Chicago would probably suit me best. Although that's probably 'cause it's the city I've spent the least time in.

There's something very English about Chicago - the city definitely reminds me of London. It's the only place I've been cold in the past 6 years.

Would move there at the drop of a hat, like others have said family prevent the dream ever becoming reality.

Good God, what a terrible list of places to live. It's like a murderer's row of U.S. shit.

Depends on what you want:

Wide open spaces, lot's of land: Wyoming
Fit, hittable chicks 24x7: Portland, OR or Boulder, CO
Most like England: New England
Best weather: Southern FL
Stupidest people: Southern FL
Smallest "big" city: Boston

Places to never live: NY State, CT. Taxes out the ass. NYC: just don't do it. LA: boring and/or crime ridden. Miami: crime like Bogota.

Best thing I ever did. It's actually cheaper to live here in the Bay area than it would be in most shitholes in the UK, and it's nice that I make much more money here and can keep a much larger amount of it come tax time.

It's almost impossible for us to get residence here unless we marry an American though, their immigration system is massively stacked against us.
