I've not completed or filed taxes yet but you have to file for health insurance before the 15th of January.  I only placed in an estimate of my income but I was taxed at a 28% rate on my personal income

So are you saying that with an income of less than $2,000 a month you are paying 28% in income taxes? Whoever does your taxes, screwed up. My sister makes about what you do and she qualifies for earned income credit, which means she actually gets a refund which is greater than she had deducted in taxes.

Since Vince is self employed he wouldn't get a refund unless he over paid. But if he didn't he pays. If he was an actual employee of a company then yes, you're correct.

I haven't received a tax refund in about 7 years and won't get one this year neither.

I see. Well my sister isn't employed; she is disabled and unable to work. Her income is PERS disability and SSD. Naturally, she doesn't pay taxes on SSD. PERS automatically takes out the minimum for taxes. In her case, that doesn't amount to much. It is less then $500 a year. Her total gross income is less than $2,000 a month which is barely enough for one person to live on in Oregon. The monthly payment to cover the assisted living cost eats up most of her limited income. She should have stayed married to one of her 5 husbands.
