I disagree. We use camera footage all the time to investigate claims of rudeness. Otherwise it is the citizen vs the officer. In the majority of cases it wasn't the officer who was rude. But in a few cases there are instances when the officer was less than professional and needs counseling and further monitoring to insure citizens are treated respectfully.

I haven't ran into an officer yet that is anti camera.

Based on who? Other officers? Internal Affairs? All part of the same team. They need independent people to verify this. Allowing cops to investigate claims is similar to allowing restaurants to run their own health inspection.  ::) ::) ::)

Looks like a bad shoot. Whoever threw the flash bang, was an idiot. The guy was cooperating and they should have deviated from the plan if it was to make a move to take him into custody. Unless it's shown at trial the man was turning to reach for a gun that is out of sight of this camera, there is no justification for it.

Sorry, I forgot who I was dealing with.

We have police monitors who are civilians who also participate in citizen complaints. Also we give the citizen the opportunity to come in and view the video with the supervisor. When I was a Sergeant on patrol I viewed dozens of videos due to complaints and rarely found the behavior the citizen complained of, and many times found the citizen to be the jerk. When the citizen was offered to come in and review it, once they realized it was taped, I can recall 1 who came in .. the rest suddenly decided they might have over reacted..

Assuming that every cop show in history is right, IA and the rank-and-file are most certainly NOT "chums"

hahaha, of course youre going to take your buddies side (cops). The problem is that you're viewing these incidents as a police officer, thus you're going to be biased to a certain extent. Like it matters that you view the videos with the citizen. Youre going to make a decision at the end of the day no matter what, and for the most part, youre going to take an officer side. Of course the citizen is usually the jerk.  ::) ::)

Also, the civilians who supposedly look at these videos are only there because its good PR. I doubt the officers take their opinions seriously.

The police force is rotten to the core. Its a cult. You all have each others backs. At the end of the day, if you have to take a citizens side or your partners side, youre going to take your partners side.

Have you heard of Google?  Enter "Cop beating citizen" or any variation of the phrase.....you will find many cops who are anti-camera.  Actually, some of them are former cops now (and hopefully rotting in solitary)......because of recording devices.

I wouldn't say chummy. IA investigates complaints on officers regarding policy violations. What cops want is thorough and fair investigations. As a cop, if I haven't done what I'm accused of, I want a good investigator looking into it. Our IA investigators are the rank of Sergeant. They all have investigative experience. They are the gatherers of the facts. Once the investigation is done, shadowed by the Office of Police Monitor, the results are turned over to the Chain of Command. During the process, the COC can ask for additional information, interviews and evidence. the COC then comes to a joint conclusion based on the evidence.

Unlike what TV portrays about animosity between IA and the street cops, they don't dislike them, they do respect them

Why even ask me a question if you are going to automatically discount the answer if it doesn't agree with you?

Just because you provided me with an answer it doesnt mean I have to agree with the answer, nor does it mean it is sufficient.

You're not listening. I said I have found instances when the citizen was right. If I am as corrupt as you say, I would have found zero. I have overturned a cops crash report because the citizen came in and explained their version with me and the cop who investigated the crash present. I agreed with the citizen and the officer amended the report. Many many times officers have been held accountable due to citizen complaints. So to make your version fit.. there would be literally zero times that happens.

And the cop that lied, desk duty for a week with full pay, huh?

Guarantee you he was not fired. Most people who lie at work are fired. But cops have each others backs. Even when they get in trouble, other cops will ensure the penalty is the bare minimum.

Who said the cop lied? It was a crash investigation. The cop came to a conclusion that in my opinion was incorrect in my opinion. Based on my experience I sided with the citizen. (Both drivers were citizens so it wasn't a cop covering, it was a cop getting it wrong on the crash investigation).

So if I told you I have been personally involved in the termination of 2 cops, one for lying about being on a contract to get discounted movie tickets, and one because he said he had his siren on when he crashed and 3 citizens said he didn't.. would you discount that and still maintain we cover for each other?

Good to hear that. I don't discount that.

Yet also many many times we have all seen where cops
Have lied & covered for each other.
Hiding evidence, lying, planting evidence, framing people,
Etc etc etc,
Yet Will you discount all of that & maintain that cops don't cover for each other.

That's not what I mean. Saying "Ha! I knew you would say that, you'll never say anything other than back up an officer" means you really aren't interested in the answer. So why ask

No, I have never said, nor never will say cops don't cover for each other. I would be an idiot to say that. We differ only on the extent in which it happens.

We don't have many bums, we have people to whom live went sideways.
State and organizations help them and never ever police or our semi-militarized urban forces would kill someone for camping in the desert.
Even during fascism this kind of crime never happened, and fascism ended in 1974 over here.
