Bodybuilders & Superman
« on: February 22, 2006, 01:09:35 PM »
This may require more thought than some of you care to put in, but why are so many bodybuilders fans of Superman?  Sure he was built in the comic books and in animation, but he is never really built in live TV shows or movies.  Comic fans always complain about that, but the fact is Superman’s strength came from earth’s lighter gravity--not from big muscles.

Here’s Italian bodybuilder, Constantino Galeazzo playing Clark Kent.

Since Superman came from Krypton or whatever planet which had a stronger gravitational field he would also have bigger muscles. Think about it GayMan.
If you could live in a planet that had 3x the gravity that we have on Earth you would be lifting 3 times as much. Everything from toothbrush to your dildo would weigh 3x as much. In fact gyms everywhere would cost less to for their owners. Less iron needed for the 45 lb plate. And if you do metric then lesser mass is needed to produce the same resistance.
You need not analyze cartoons. And if you want to nit pick why doesn't Supermans muscularity and strength dwindle once his muscles adapt to the lower gravity on earth. Astronauts suffer from muscle atrophy and strength losses after prolonged periods of weightlessness. (PS: I do know that weightlessness in a Space Shuttle is due to free fall that they experience much like you would be weightless if your descending elevator suddenly cut loose and went into a free fall not because there is no gravity...gravity still exists albeit it is not 9.81 m/s^2)

I take it as Superman being symbolic of superhuman strenth, the ultimate alpha male, etc. I don't think it has as much to do with the body as it does with the image.

The relation of superman to bodybuilders is way over-done.

I was thinking of getting this tattooed on me. Just the Hulk so it looks like he's tearing out of my skin.

Cool, huh?

I find Superman a bit boring.

There's nothing interesting about him. He's just a goody-goody.
I prefer Batman or Blade.

But i'm not a comic book geek. I just know them from movies.
