EVH isn't that great of a guitar player.

John Sykes and Gary Moore are far better, Adrian Vandenberg, Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, John Petrucci, Andy Wood, Chris Broderick, Paul Gilbert... All these guys are miles ahead Eddie.

And I would vote Tornado Of Souls' solo to be very good. Marty Friedman did a fantastic job on that song.

i've heard them all, more to being a great guiitarist besides technique.

and PS before everyone figured out how to play like him, EVH was THE technique monster. just happened to be a great rock songwriter too. he changed the way rock sounds.

EVH might have made a dollar or two more than those other guys over his lifetime.

This, lots of others can shred but 15 secs in I'm bored...Ed would solo and leave you wanting more, plus the songs were great.

I agree.  I don't need the music to be uber complicated to enjoy it.  I can appreciate that others who are experts may have a deeper appreciation (for example, people love Tool for various reasons - I just like the songs...).

As for VH, my main problem is Roth's chatter and scream that they threw into everything.  Unchained is such a cool song, but the whole conversation thing in the middle is cringe worthy.

I'm not a guitar player. ( i stab at it occasionally), but in my opinion...I don't think any one of these guys is better "technically" than the other.  I laugh when people say X can't play as fast as Y.

i would think dudes at this level can play any piece of music ever written on a guitar, it's what they choose to play

If you haven't heard of him yet, I recommend that you take a listen to Michael Romeo, he plays in the band Symphony X.

His solo on this song from a band he collaborated with was great
The song itself is not that great, skip to 4:40 for the solo

You cant define "fast" on guitar because they're are different perceptions. yeah Ed is fast and so is Yngwie but damn listen to SRV play "Scuttle Buttin" and that is fast as fuck but just played a different style.

...I'm headed down to Nashville in a few to see my brother play a couple of shows and he plays all classic style guitars like Les Pauls, SG's, Strats, and Firebirds and he can play in his style as fast as anybody out there.
