Optional Vaccines
« on: February 02, 2015, 03:15:59 PM »
Candidates Rand Paul and Chris Christie are weighing in on vaccinations. For more info on this, read: http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/rand-paul-vaccines-can-lead-mental-disorders-n298821.

This is a controversial subject. One which is bound to raise some hackles. One might ask themselves this, if there was a vaccination available that prevented Ebola and therefore could stop the spread of this disease, should folks have the option of submitting to it or not?

Polio has all but been wiped out as a result of the polio vaccination. There are other diseases which used to take thousands of lives and which because of vaccines are all but vanquished.

On the other side of the argument we have the rising suspicion that some neurological, mental and emotional disorders, such as Autism and ADD could be caused by reactions to vaccinations.

Where do you all stand on this topic?

When the Government can shoot you up with whatever they want against your will but you cant shoot what you want in your body you are not free.

I don't disagree with you. However, if I wanted to pump my muscles full of oil or inject a butt load of hormones into my system, chances are I am only risking my own health. If there are vaccines that prevent contagious illnesses to spread to innocent people and I refuse to be immunized, I am putting others at risk. Freedom always has a price. Is the price of freedom too high when one person is allowed to disregard the health of perhaps thousands of other people for the sake of being free?

Truth be told, I can be swayed. I have never had a flu shot or a pneumonia shot. I don't get the flu and when I've had bronchial pneumonia, I've taken precautions to not infect others. I also never had a shingles vaccine. As best I know shingles is not contagious. Last year, I had shingles. It is a miserable illness. There were times when I wished I'd succumbed to the ads for a shingles vaccination. One thing about this vaccination is that it does not prevent shingles, it just makes the attack less severe.

Germs are everywhere. I refuse to become germ phobic. I wash my hands a often as is practical. I workout on equipment others have used before me without regard to whatever germs they may have left behind. Life is short. Worrying about all this shit takes a lot of time and energy and it is basically negative thinking.

Republicans always find a way to be stupid beyond belief and without a clue about EVERYTHING. Today it's vaccines.  Considering that there are no vaccines for stupidity, they should be thankful it is not a fatal instance.

This is really only a political issue because the public has allowed it to be so. Politicians are often looking for something to hang their hats on. Our fears and worries is a natural place for someone looking to get elected to develop a campaign cause.

Some folks are naturally suspicious of science, especially medical science. Sometimes these fears are expressed via religious teaching. There is a religious group near where I live who under almost no circumstances will seek medical help. When their children have died of relatively common curable ailments, they have been arrested and prosecuted. Some of these parents have done jail time. Horrible you say? Well what is more horrible is their children died because of their parent's misguided religious beliefs.

As best as I know, there is no definitive proof that vaccinations cause neurological problems for children. Some parents are taking a stand again vaccinations based on incomplete information and risking their children's and sometimes everyone else's lives in the process. It's a horrible manifestation of ignorance and suspicion.

What?  You mean that "heaven didn't need an angel?"  Or "God was just testing them?"  Or (as one poster on here has said in the past) "God was punishing the child because of parental sins"

I believe that I am a spiritual person. I am not a religious person. Too much crap happens in the name of religion which is (in my opinion) a man-made crutch to get us through life and indenture us to a few power hungry people.

If I believed in God and I am not sure that I do, God would not punish anyone for their or other people's sins. We do a pretty good job of punishing ourselves when we screw up with the exception of psychopaths who cannot be saved by religious beliefs anyway.

Death
retardation
MS
blindness
etc..
etc..

are all because of the parents sins.  At least this is what one member here has claimed.  And this is a true Bible reader who says it too.

exactly.  I hate when people say that this is a CONTROVERSIAL subject. it's not.  it's very simple.  some people want the freedom to make a very bad irresponsible decision for their children that directly impacts the safety of MY children and YOUR children.

If your kid is vaccinated then it shouldn't be an issue. Again....Id vaccinate but I'm not comfortable with the Gov telling me I have to inject a shot into my arm. I get tons more shots then all of you guys...all the time. I hate it. I hate the dam flu shot because I think long term it fucks you.

The best thing you can do to prevent getting sick is diet and exercise. Unhealthy people with weak immune systems are at much greater risk.

the problem with that is there are some kids that can't get the vaccination because of illness or a disease so they count on everyone else to do their part and get vaccinated so they can stay healthy.and they also put babies at risk because you have to be a curtain age to get vaccinated.PLEASE EDUCATE YOURSELF ON THE TOPIC

My personal and professional preference would be for everyone to be vaccinated. The science and proof is overwhelming in favor of the effectiveness of vaccines.

But as an American, it shoud be a choice for the parents to make.

But please do your own research, youll see that vaccines are the way to go.

 ;)

please read what you post so you don't look like a fool

The administration justifies the budget cuts—saying that many people who rely on the program now have access to coverage of some kind under the president’s health care law. So far, more than 10 million people have been covered under Obamacare. White House officials also said the proposed budget adds an additional $128 million to a separate program that provides vaccines to uninsured and Medicaid-eligible children.
