Dave Palumbos favorite city: San Diego
« on: February 03, 2015, 08:04:59 AM »
I was listening to rxmuscles radioshow and dave palumbo said that that if he would move he would move to San Diego
Do you agree with Dave?

Is San Diego the #1 place to be in the US?

It's great. My father is from there and my brother lives there.  My only issue is cost of living. Other than that, beautiful.

I lived there for 10 years.  Everyday felt like I was on a vacation.  A single person need to make upwards of 80K to live properly.  House prices are ridiculously expensive and rent is high.

If you are going to be homeless, SD is the place to be.  The low temp at night is around 45 degrees... the more East you go, the higher the temperature.  No issues sleeping outside on park benches in the wintertime.  I knew a few people who lived in their cars/vans.  They used the gym facilities to clean up.

I would up that to $120k minimum.  And proximity to Mexico is a problem for some.  Bah!

He wants to be here to be close to the border.  Fun being close to the beach and having nice weather year round.  Sadly over the last few years since the housing boom it became a suburb of the Orange County fucks.

Its not as much as LA is it?

I compared rent back in 2010 and typically SD was about $200 less ( all things being equal) on rent than a comparable property in LA.

Depends on where you live.  Coastal areas like Coronado or La Jolla?... you're going to pay a hefty price.  I lived in a median priced area.  I was frugal and rented, so I never had a problem.  After expenses, I was saving $1000 a month.  I was making 76K at the time.  It's a little bit easier right now since gas prices are down, but they're not going to stay down for long.

LA is a big mix of high end and super low end.  So depends on where you live.  People live in all sorts of suburbs outside of LA and claim they're in LA.

You can get by on $60K (Life Style on a budget as long as you are debt free) in SD and buy a house, depending on the area.  Even the worst areas are nothing like Philly or Chicago.  SD doesn't have a Compton or East LA either. Is it the best city?  Nope!  Bay Area is better by a mile.

As far as Dave goes, the dude is Bi-Sexual, and I'd bet a months salary he frequents the Homo Clubs and spots in Hillcrest.

Hillcrest cheaper than BayGBM.  Access to the border is bullshit.  That can be done from any point in South Cal.

Bay Area is better by a mile.

The IT industry-induced gentrification of SF is driving nigg..ards into peripheral areas, thereby improving the lot of the city even further.

It's not Compton, but you do not want to get caught in/around/near Barrio Logan at night.

Some parts of Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, National City and Spring Valley are not very pleasant either.

I'll second that I made 80k and even then it was tough to make a mortgage, car note, gas, food and have enough left to go out every now and then and have a hobby. Now I'm in Texas it's night and day

I think it's like that everywhere, you can't live by yourself with 80k now if you own a house.
except if you just like sitting on the couch and watch tv all day

lol at Bay area as a whole being better, like Oakland, Fremont and Concord?  As a city San Francisco is better than San Diego. Better food, better nightlife, everything is close to walk or you can take public transport.  But weather, access to beaches, San Diego by a mile.  What makes San Diego "great" is the weather.  Yeah about beaches, but there are beaches up the coast in Oregan and Washington state but no one talks about them because its cold as shit.

I could not justify a buying a house in SD while making 76K a year.  I lived in many different areas (starting with La Jolla) and downsized every time I moved in order to save money.  My car was paid off.  I didn't feel deprived in any way.  The last place I lived was small cottage ($900/month) in a pretty nice area.  I trained at both World Gym and Stern's.

That's bad ass man! Well I bought in Escondido. (Nice part by golf courses) at the bottom of the market in 08 for 174k. Just got an offer of 245k today as its up for sale. So it was an investment. Fingers crossed it's all works out

Beautiful city, great weather. Have relatives and friends in La Jolla, La Mesa, "Rancho Del Mar" area, and Rancho Santa Fe.
