I agree.  What time period one chooses to dwell in has a profound impact on their world view.  It allows Muslims who have a history of oppression and murder to assume the role of victim in an age were victim hood is advantageous.  In their minds history only goes back as far as European colonialism.  This arrangement benefits those in power in the ME because it takes the focus off of their abuse of their own people.   Saudi Arabia would be in a state of civil war without the great Satan of western culture to distract the peasantry.   The sheiks and monarchy are well aware of this.

That's the hypocrisy of it all. They preach against Western values/ideas but are very selective on what they choose to reject. I don't see many wanting to give up their cars for instance.

I meant more in the sense that Europe, like the ME was bogged down by petty squabbles and warring tribes/clans. Religion dominated every aspect of people’s lives and there was little value placed on human life. It was a harsh existence and was well known for its cruelty. What ISIS did to this man was similar to how many were killed in Europe back then – being burnt alive (at the stake). You also had forms of execution that made beheadings look tame:

According to one of the committee members, King Abdullah did not so much as mention President Obama in the meeting.

Citing committe member  Rep. Duncan Hunter Jr., The Washington Examiner reports that the king showed “an extraordinary measure of anger” during the meeting, which he expressed in part by quoting Eastwood’s film:

"He said there is going to be retribution like ISIS hasn't seen," said Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter Jr., a Marine Corps veteran of two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, who was in the meeting with the king. "He mentioned 'Unforgiven' and he mentioned Clint Eastwood, and he actually quoted a part of the movie."

Hunter would not say which part of "Unforgiven" the king quoted, but noted it was where Eastwood's character describes how he is going to deliver his retribution.
