Sorta reminds me of the old Russian Olympic bars that had the collars that locked into grooves. Those collars look to take up a lot of space, but might be handy for over the face type lifts.

Why not just get these bars and a bunch of plates. If you have a steady waist high table to make dumbbells you can make any weight quick.  I used that system forever until I got some fixed dumbbells for the bigger weights.
