Authorities in Los Angeles are investigating whether Bruce Jenner was texting on his phone prior to allegedly causing a car crash that killed a 69-year-old woman and injured several others.
Police announced they were obtaining search warrants to access the reality TV star’s mobile phone records to determine if the phone was being used at the time of the crash on the Pacific Coast Highway in Calabasas, TMZ reported.
It is illegal to text while driving in California.
The prompt to investigate phone records came after photos from paparazzi who were following the Olympian champion apparently showed him clutching something in his left hand prior to the collision.
A representative from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said there is no indication paparazzi played a role in the crash, reported the Los Angeles Times.
Police have also identified the victim as 69-year-old Kim Howe.
She reportedly lived in the gated community in Calabasas where Mr Jenner’s daughters Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian reside.
Mrs Howe reportedly owned several properties in the area.
Authorities said Mr Jenner cooperated with police and had passed a sobriety test, according to CBS News.
The incident occurred when Mr Jenner, who is 65, rear-ended Mrs Howe’s Lexus, which propelled her car into oncoming traffic.
A Hummer travelling in the opposite direction slammed into the vehicle and she died at the scene.
Mr Jenner, who is 65, was not injured in the crash.
