Until I see someone holding a gun to one of these folks heads and threatening them with death if they dont eat, there is NOT an excuse to look like this...Cmon folks, this isnt some mental illness-its called being lazy and weak and making excuses for poor behavior.
Throw this bitch in a jail cell with a treadmill, and feed her nothing but lettuce and cucumbers for the next two years...lets see how sick she is then...
Fuck her and her fat parents-they all deserve to die letting themselves get like that-
three less people us hard working folks will have to support with our tax dollars...

I'll bash them, there weak people, who are worthless to society. They eat enough food to support a family of four.  They are disgusting.

I'm glad they decided to take personal responsibility when they're on the edge of death and can't move. Instead of doing something when they where obese 400lbs ago.

You guys who talk like "they are lazy" "fucks" "making excuses" "unmotivated" etc...

You actually have no idea about obesity, the causes and treatment. Actually get to know a morbidly obese person and try to help them? You will find out its not so clear cut. Not to mention the literature on the subject.

Having exercise dependence does not make you an authority on the matter of obesity.

Dont want to start a thread about attacking obese people.

Was watching this show last night about the depressing sad life of a 5'4"  656 lbs chick.

But my question really is, how can a young woman weights 300 lbs and keeps gaining hundreds and hundreds of pounds to then at 660 lbs, realize that she's not comfortable , is not healthy doesn't look good and is not the life she wants etc.

Was she comfortable at 400 lbs that kept gaining and gaining ?

A female friend told me : "because it's a sickeness don't you get it?

Do you really think is a sickeness?

Woosshhhhhhh
I have watched this show also. There was this woman who had the surgery to make her stomach smaller. The doctor kept her in hospital to monitor her. She was losing weight until her husband started sneaking foods in for her. Basically she found excuses to not stick to her diet given to her by the doctor. They sent her home as the doc said she wasn't following Instructions. She was supose to attempt to try and walk and she refused. It was a depressing show. Then the woman was cooking fried food that her husband bought from the supermarket. Basically the husband didn't have a back bone. He should have told her to do as she was told end of story. He enabled her to fail.

Some problems are just plain hard to understand unless you've been personally involved with people living through these issues. I don't get how anyone can weigh three to four times a normal person's weight and suggest that they had nothing to do with that happening. It has to be an emotional and/or mental sickness. People just don't get that fat because they have a slow metabolism or whatever. I actually feel sorry for these folks, although I must admit that when I see someone who's headed in this direction, I find them a bit disgusting. But then, being fat has never been a problem for me since I tend to be lean so maybe I just don't understand how that works.

My wife has always been a little overweight even as a child, but not like some freak from a sideshow overweight. She didn't have the best eating habits and clearly food filled some need beyond just satisfying hunger. Exercise has never been her thing. As is well documented on Getbig, she has a lot of health problems. At least some of these relate to her lifestyle choices through the years. She probably has never been more than 50 lbs. over the ideal weight for a woman of her stature. I cannot imagine the magnitude of the health problems someone faces whose weight is twice the norm or more will face as they mature.

I actually do have an idea about obesity, as I was a biology major before getting and advanced degree in economics.
The following is scientific fact: "Never has it been proven that a human being will not lose weight on a limited calorie diet"
Eat less, weigh less...
Obesity is a "disease"/excuse that is made up after the fact when someone eats too much.
For those of you that say obesity is a "disease", what you are implying is that there are skinny people running around that have this obesity disease, and it just has not manifested itself yet.
This is simply not true.
Being overweight is more closely tied to depression, another illness of the weak.

I think that's very well stated

The two definitions of disease

a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, especially one that produces specific signs or symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury.
"bacterial meningitis is a rare disease"

a particular quality, habit, or disposition regarded as adversely affecting a person or group of people.
"departmental administration has often led to the dread disease of departmentalitis"

So it's either a actual medical problem that can be traced to a mental or physical problem,

Or used in the terms like the disease of laziness will lead to obesity

I tend to agree with the last definition

Let's say that yes obesity it's a mental disease but your not born with it. Overeating, not exercising leads to the development of the disease.  So the root cause is over eating. Which is just a respone to some tragity or depression.  But that's not an excuse to be obese. Everyone on earth has had some form of depression but we are not all 600lbs. The weak give up. The strong over come it's that simple

Exactly my point...
Listen, at the end of the day, who would not want to eat pizza and Taco Bell all day long? Some of us recognize that there are consequences to actions like this, and therefore abstain. Weak people ignore this, or do not have the willpower to stop, and suffer the consequences. When its too far gone, liberalss and doctor need to call it something to make an excuse for weak people, hence the label.

This is the best episode so far.

The woman managed to gain weight after the bariatric surgery.
Its clear they don't want to follow the steps for her to lose weight.
The woman wants to live like a queen in her bed eating all the good things she desires and having her subject cleaning her ass.
The husband wants to not have a job and live from her government benefit for being a morbidly obese.
I wonder if the TV show gave them some money to be in it.

Who didn't watch the show can get a short commented version here:

is that Penny from My 600 pound life on TLC?  She is delusional, even the Doctor called her that...her husband is a Feeder, gets her whatever she wants while she insists she can't exercise because she has a small sore the size of a quarter on her tummy rolls.

The drive to eat excessively might be an advantageous trait in an environment where food isn't abundant or is only seasonally available. They eat as much as they can while the eating is good. Such a trait causes problems when food is easily obtained as it is in the developed world.  After they reach the point where immobility is restricted its the enablers around them causing the most harm.

Not so sure about this. Just look at Islander type people, hawaiins, samoans etc... Some real obese creatures that don't have all the walmarts and shit to eat from

I don't get how they are alive. I start to feel like absolute shit at around 230... Ideal is about 210. Not a real big jump. I can't imagine getting over 230... Then tacking on another HUNDRED pounds and not dieing. I don't know how people can get so obese and still be alive. How do you do it bigmc?

Good point.  When I put on 10 pounds during the holidays, my sleep sucks, I start to snore.  I feel uncomfortable.  How can they gain weight at such a fast pace and not suffer from it?

When you don't have access to drugs or cognitive therapy to deal with anxiety, food can become a comfort that helps control the anxiety. Then when you use boatloads of food to deal with a mental illness, the food becomes the problem. Sugar crashes etc...

A lot of truth in fat bastard here
