None taken , I'll be the first to admit I may be wrong.
You honestly think he was 222 in 1972? I'm not buying that at all. I think I recall reading he was 240 lbs when he was training with Arthur Jones
Honorable ND,
I read one of those Nautilus books that featured Oliva as what Jones regarded as the "ultimate physique."
In that text, Jones said he was 233 in the photos he took of him in Ocala.
I tend to trust Jones when it comes to measurements like height, weight, arm circumference et al., especially because he had no reason at all to lie when it came to Sergio's stats. After all, it wasn't as if Sergio went running around the world, screaming at the top of his lungs, "Nautilus es todo!"
Moreover, Casey was Jones' "baby," so to speak. He was pushing Casey hard in Ironman even when it was clearly evident that the kid, while exceptional, was nowhere NEAR the top dudes of the day, not limited to, but certainly including, Arnold.
But to speak to the topic at hand, yeah ... Sergio is definitely up there for best genetics and best build ever. By all accounts, he was a hard-working dude but a bit dopey (hence Arnold "tricking" him more than once). And he readily admitted that he didn't give two shits about dieting to get ultra-ripped, and many accounts of his drug use are ... ehh. It's only hearsay to me, but even one of the old Ironagers talked about how he'd eat -- yeah, EAT -- Dianabol tabs by the handful. When onlookers had a WTF moment, he'd smile and say, "Time to grow!"
