Cross Fit reminds me a lot of the EST and Human Potential movements from the seventies/early-eighties only with exercise.

I've said that CrossFit is actually a good concept. The problem is most no concept of programming. Olympic lifts no more than 5 reps. Box jumps no more than 10 and depending on what it's paired with no more than 5. This is just an example. Usually after the fifth rep on say an Olympic lift, there is technical breakdown and CNS overload. That = injury

I'm not a cross fitter but I have defended them in the past saying at least they are not mirror athletes or just bench pressers.  After watching these videos cross fit has just turned into stupidity. You're recommendations about Olympic lifts are correct. High rep lifts will lead to injury.

Old fashion conventional athletic training worked in the past and it works now. All these new fitness fads is just insane.

I agree 100%.

I don't understand why they don't do a standing long jump or vertical jump test?
The NFL combine seems to be a very sensible test of athletic fitness.
Why do they perform all these oddball movements?

Because they need people to believe that getting in great shape can only be achieved by doing these ridiculous things.  Naïve/stupid people tend to latch on to gimmicks and counterintuitive nonsense like this.

Cross fit had a competition held at last months expo in San Jose.  People stood and screamed for HOURS as people did pull ups, skipped roped, and did power cleans.  HOURS!  Bizarre.
