he said on radio show that he wanted to buy this house and renovate it...but said that taxes are too high (20k a year so he didint buy it)...the house is next to his house...interest to see that this house lost 5x it value cause it was bought in 2006 for 780 000...and now it was sold for 160 000$ ...

Can someone explain to me this US house tax?

Who do you pay it to and who decides how much it should be?

Do you still have to pay it even if you've cleared your mortgage?

Is it similar to the council tax we have in the UK where you pay a certain amount based on what "tax band" your house is in?
