Platz has to be the greatest bodybuilder to never win a major pro show. His physique was freakish and way ahead of its time.
He's probably one of the most popular bodybuilders ever, yet only competed in a handful of pro shows. Probably less than a dozen and other than 1980 usually only did 1 show a year.
His biceps tear was horrendous but in an odd way it may have contributed to his popularity. He is remembered for the one show that he hit his absolute peak shape. And because the tear ruined his chances he focused on the seminar circuit and getting in shape for photo shoots. I don't think he would've ever gotten much better than his 81 shape and there was no way he would've ever beaten Haney even if he did bring up his arms.
