Chris Dickerson - Interview
« on: February 26, 2015, 05:59:35 PM »
Check out the great interview with 1982 Mr. Olympia Chris Dickerson on the new Bodybuilding Legends Show on FloridaPhysique.com -

http://www.floridaphysique.com/#!bodybuilding-legends---chris-dickerson/c1mhy

Chris talks about training with his coach/mentor Bill Pearl, becoming the first African-American bodybuilder to win the AAU Mr. America title, his runner-up placing at the controversial 1980 and 1981 Mr. Olympia contests, winning the 1982 Mr. Olympia and who he thought was his toughest competition.

Narrower than Heath.   Perhaps the worst Mr. Olympia ever or at least back when winning the O actually meant something.  Looks like Curious George from the neck up.

Totally and unequivocally unworthy.

John, these interviews are great. I met Chris a few times when I trained Bill Pearls Pasadena Health Club. He a real gentlemen. Always handled himself with a ton of class.

If you listen to the interview, he does talk about the Australian Bodybuilding Team awarding him the unofficial Mr. Olympia trophy.

Thanks for that great interview. If I can have one critique can you include more training questions? I know Chris use to divide his body in half and train 6 days a week for about 18 sets a body part. He used three exercises per body part for 6 sets each during his training years in the late 70's and 80's.  It would have been interesting to hear him talk about it.

I used to see him and his boyfriend around Ft Lauderdale all the time.  He was very down to earth and enjoyed talking to anyone he met.  Last couple of years he could barely walk though.

Dickerson was pathetic, narrow, dinky and deserved nothing short of being relegated way down the lineup.  He never should have won the O when he did.  Never.  If he were to read this and his feelings get all butthurt, too bad.

Was he built better than I?  Yup.  But I wasn't his competition and he lost to the best that's ever been and that even when the Oak was far off his game.

Somebody call the waaaambulance.

Dickerson was great during his day, the '60's and '70's. He was the oldest winner of the Mr. Olympia (43 years old) and may not have been at his best by that time but he was a great competitor for over 25 years.
