Imagine to fly 7 miles straight up and the rock is still in front of you.

there are proofs several massive meteors hit the earth , produced nuclear winters that lasted for centuries and triggered massive volcano chain eruptions. Plants, herbivores then carnivores died and only some animals living in water , underground or able to fly to isolated protected areas  survived. These little mamals then gave birth to chimps that became men. Huge dinosaurs evolved to become little birds.

That analogy is metal vs flesh. Fire a piece of flesh at a human and would it travel through? An asteroid made up of rock hitting the earth which is rock and metal plus A liquid core that could cushion the blow.
